I'll be (90% sure) moving to San Antonio with my girlfriend to support her and be there for her while she attends Law School there. Basically, we're both moving in with each other and well, it's kind of all coming along fairly quickly and before we know it we'll be moving there. She might be going up there to see a few Apartments next weekend so I thought I should ask everyone here who's from SA to which areas to avoid?

Which side is the nicest area to live in? Any nice apartment recommendations? Preferably around St. Mary's Law School but not too expensive. Basically, we need a place to stay in. What Places to avoid? How is traffic situation up there?

I need a job too, an internship or whatever. I'll work for FREE if its a professional job that has to do with the IT or Engineering area. I really want an Internship though to get my feet wet.

We're basically going there blindfolded. So I'd appreciate ANY help or info about the city that might be useful to us from anyone. I don't want to be completely lost when I get there.

st marys is over by the woodlawn lake area(this is west of I10, and south of 410), that area isnt really "bad", two friends of mine live over there, one right next to jefferson highschool. most of the people at my old school seemed to think it was a "bad" area, but this is coming from people who lived in gated areas... its a nice place and i woundnt mind living over there. dont know much about rentals but we have some appartments in monte vista(which is just north of downtown), and i think the cheapest one, which is a 1 bedroom/bath w/ small living & kitchen is $500ish a month( i however have no idea if thats good/bad or anything but its a start???) but the appartment is centrally located in SA, and close to utsa/trinity/downtown.
traffic in SA isnt bad at all, every day for school i would have to drive from monte vista, out past i10 and 1604(about 17 miles), and could do it in 15 min easy, if there was no wrecks...
    hope this helps

Really appreciate the info. Seems like rent in SA is pretty cheap. We're also looking for a condo as well. Thanks!

The medical area would not be a bad place to rent condos or apts either. Condos are pretty cheap here 50-65k basically same as renting imo.

Medical is off I-10, and I swear you can get to most places in SA around 20 minutes without traffic. This place is heaven as far as traffic compared to chicago, which is where I moved from.

My friend actually lives in mayfair condos off mcullough. It is not bad 1100 sq ft around 100k. 2 bdr. Secured garage parking, with gates to get in. It also has a community swimming pool.

PM me if you want more specific questions answered. You could probably find more info on condos for sale by going to realtor.com or rent.com for renting.

Welcome to the area! We really are a friendly group, you'll feel very welcome in almost every part of the city.

If I may suggest, as I have recently begun a new apartment search myself, contact one of the many, many apartment locators here in town. Most can be found online, and will correspond through email, if that's easiest for you. They don't cost you a thing, as they are paid by the apartment complexes themselves. Just tell them what you are looking for, what you are willing to spend, and where you're both going to be in school...this lets them do the yucky footwork for you! :) Its a great service...especially if you aren't in town to drive from complex to complex ahead of time.

Best of luck, and let us know how it goes. Then stop in FoSA and say hi :)

I owned a house there for 2 years, got broken into three or four times. Stuff was stolen constently. Loved the house, hated to sell it, but....

    Shameless plug comming up....

I do have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage rent house near the airport if interested.
    IM me for more info.

    Good luck with your search....

Thanks soo much guys. Im really excited but at the same time Im pretty scared about living in a new city and finding a new job (biggest of my worries).

Caro Mio Cavallino, Thanks for the welcoming. And I will mention to my GF about the locators since she's the one who's doing the looking. And I'll surely pass by FoSA.

Scuderia-of-San-Antonio, advice taken. I think a house would be to big for us. We're probably going to settle with a Condo, if not probably an Apartment. But thanks for the offer and advice. I really appreciate it.

Just a few more weeks and I'll be a San Anton-ian.

So we found a condo and it's a done deal. It's located at the Garden Medical Center on 4949 Hamilton Wolfe Road so we'll be staying there. Anybody know about this area? Man, Im getting overwhelmed with stress. But Im really excited about living in SA.

...oh, my gf thought St. Marys Law school was going to be a little nicer. But then again, she only saw about 8% if the campus.

Just wanted to give a final update and let everyone from down here know that San Antonio is such a beautiful city. So far no Ferraris spotted but I did see a CGT at some dealership down my street.
