As a strong advocate for bringing Formula 1 racing to Austin, Texas, I urge you to approve item #4 on the agenda for November 16, the cut and fill variance along with the slope variance for the United States Grand Prix site. City staff and the Environmental Board have recommended these two variances for the project. And the variance requests are consistent with past requests made throughout Austin. In addition, this project will serve as a catalyst in the City of Austin’s Desired Development Zone that has long been needed.

Supporting these variances will bring this project a step further to becoming a reality. I am eager for the arrival of Formula 1 in Austin, Texas, and urge you to support these matters.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME - YOUR LOCATION

Excellent!! Thank you team! The zoning and plating commission approved Austin F1 tonight 5 to 1!!! Congratulations everybody and thank you for your support. We still need your help though!

The largest, most important meeting of all was actually supposed to be in Mid Dec. but was just pushed to this Thursday, the 18th! A template is being drawn up to email the City Council.

I've been posting the template on 10 - 15 forums and word is: We are "crippling" local government with email support for F1 Austin. Congratulations everybody! :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Mayor and Council members,

As a strong advocate for bringing Formula 1 racing to Austin, Texas, I urge you to approve items #2 and #3 on the agenda for November 18 related to a service extension request and development reimbursement for water and wastewater improvements for the region that includes the United States Grand Prix site. City staff and the Water and Wastewater Commission have recommended these items. And these items are consistent with past requests made throughout Austin’s ETJ. Additionally, the Environmental Board and Zoning and Platting Commission have recommended variances related to this project.

The Formula 1 project will serve as a catalyst for improvements in the City of Austin’s Desired Development Zone and SH 130 corridor that have long been needed.

Supporting these items will bring this project a step further to becoming a reality. I am eager for the arrival of Formula 1 in Austin, Texas, and urge you to support these matters.

Sincerely,

Supporter of the Formula 1 United States Grand PrixTM in Austin, Texas

U.S. Grand Prix clears another hurdle

By John Maher | Tuesday, November 16, 2010, 07:11 PM

Promoters of the proposed Formula One U.S. Grand Prix in Austin cleared another hurdle Tuesday evening.

The city’s Zoning and Platting Commission approved environmental variances to allow cutting and filling on the site, which will allow the circuit designers,Tilke GmbH, to grade the land to construct the course, stands and other features. There was only one dissenting vote from the board.

Promoters of the event, Full Throttle Productions, have been told by F1 officials to have the circuit ready by June 2012, although the race will not be assigned a date until late 2011.

The promoters’ attorney, Richard Suttle, also said that, after analyzing new flood plain data, it was determined neither the track nor any of the parking would fall in the 100-year flood plain at the site southeast of Austin.

Next up for the project is the City Council. Promoters are still hoping to break ground in December.

Done. I added to my letter that IMO, none of the USGP race sites since Watkins Glen in 1980 have been totally acceptable in my book, but that I would come to Austin if this all comes off. (Provided, of course, that they do not hold the race in the heat of the summer! Remember Dallas?)

Below is from the Austin Statesman today:
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/cityhall/entries/2010/11/18/council_oks_water_sewer_line_a.html

The Austin City Council cast its first vote today related to Formula One, unanimously agreeing to reimburse developers of the race track $13.5 million to install large water and sewer lines in and near the site.
F1 plans to build the track on about 900 acres near Elroy in southeastern Travis County. They intend to hold Grand Prix races from 2012 through at least 2021, making Austin the first U.S. city to stage such races since Indianapolis in 2007.
F1 organizers asked the city to provide water and sewer service to a site. The city routinely gets such requests, and routinely asks the developers to install oversize water and sewer lines to anticipate and serve future growth in an area, Austin Water Utility Assistant Director David Juarez said. The city then reimburses part or all of the cost, he said.
The city recoups the money over time as residents and businesses in the area pay water and sewer charges, Juarez said. Formula One promoters are not receiving special treatment, he said.
A company associated with the F1 organizers, Land Accelerator LLC, is trying to get all of the city and county approvals needed by the end of the year to start the first phase of construction, which will be to grade and slope the land.
The developers recently got environmental variances from the city and have only a few more hurdles to clear, said Richard Suttle, an attorney representing the project. They must get site plans approved by the city and county, and a flood-plain variance OKed by the county, he said.
Developers will pay to install the 24- to 36-inch water and sewer lines up front, then will reimburse them 100 percent of the cost three months after the work is completed, Juarez said.
Such agreements are common, he said; in the past five years, the city has agreed to reimburse part or all of the cost of installing water and sewer lines for 27 projects.
