http://www.kurzweilai.net/meme/frame.html?main=/articles/art0551.html? Im very curious to see what people will say to this.
well, I dont like how the article talks authorotatively about what 'will' be, considering it's taking for granted that these devices will be created. we have dreamed up such devices, but we do not yet have the capability to make them nor the knowledge to make them function as described. Nobody can ever know if we can replicate the neural functions of the brain, yet the article says we will have nanobots helping with it by 2040. Forget the fact that a nanobot is just a dreamed up device at this point and we dont even have human replica full size robots, forget about nano-sized. In the 40's there were TV shows and fairs that predicted we'd be travling in flying cars and all have personal robots in the future. What we really have is some evolutionary stuff like better more efficient cars. We also have some stuff that nobody had dreamed up, like the Internet or cell phones and computers. Much is the same, like the suits we wear, and sunglasses and TV's are generally the same, as is radio and cars do pretty much the same thing they always did and plane travel is pretty much the same. Most of that stuff will be the same, but some things will be improved in ways that are hard to predict, and new things will come out that we never thought of. Just like we can look back and chuckle at the 1940's predictions of personal flying cars and robotic helpers to do our dirty work, we will laugh at this predictions too. IMO of course.
They make movies about this kind of stuff. It's entertaining to read and to think about. I don't know if I'd want to live like so, hell according to the article, you won't be able to "fart". Here's a quote from the article. "Meets the latest EPA guidelines for environmentally-friendly elimination. Emission control system reduces outgassing and muffles sounds. Highly tuned digestion continually removes toxins, eliminating colon cancer and other diseases. Adjustable buttock firmness ensures seated comfort in all circumstances, no matter how rough the terrain"
