I am looking into the purchase of a vetroresina 308 and have seen one on E Bay in Indiana for $49K. What are you thoughts on the current and future value and of these cars. Ebay item #190360446367

That one has been on Ebay FOREVER, likely due to the fact that is has high mileage (in the eyes of most potential buyers) and is a wet sump, twin dizzy U.S. car. The glass cars that are really sought after are, of course, the Euro ones, with their dry sump engines, single dizzy and, accordingly, higher HP. The car of which you speak will likely never appreciate (it is pure speculation that any 308s will, though I tend to think that the carb cars will at some point) due to the aforementioned high mileage. If you were buying the car for this purpose, you would likely never drive it, as any further mileage would be taking it into "the land of no return" investment-wise. The car is over-priced in this market and, again, pursuant to the mileage.

It still is all about the condition of the car. Most great 308s just aren't changing hands and you have to take what you can get. I would have preferred an early or vetroresina GTB, but when the QV GTS came up on the market at the price that was being asked, I had to act fast.

I have seen the Indiana car. It is very nice. It is being sold by Ooley and Blackburn (sp?). They have a very good reputation around here.

Their prices are high, but it's because they only sell really nice cars.

If you would like me to go look at the car again, please let me know, I will be happy to give you an unbiased opinion.

I am not a Ferrari expert (even though I do have an internet connection :) ) as I have only owned my 308 GTBi for 2 months, but I have bought and sold a few cars.

Let me know if you want some help: The car is only 15 mile ( 25 km?) from me.

This car has indeed been on ebay for a while, and I think the asking price might be 5-10k too high. Nice early GTBs are just plain hard to find, especially a glass car. Do not allow the glass aspect to limit your search if you are looking for a car to drive and not necessarily a 'trophy' 308 which a glass certainly is.

As far as power is concerned, no there is no extra power as this is a '76 car with early US cams ('76-'77) which are Euro cams. Glass cars weigh within 20-30lbs of a early steel GTB so there is no savings there. Sure, a Euro car would be neat to have but even with a US car the Euro bumper mod can be performed very easily for huge weight savings and dry sump is a luxury I only see as useful on the track.

Thanks for the comments. The mileage was something that I looked at also. They just don't come up for sale that often. If someone could take a look I would appreciate it. As far as a driver, I put about 30k on my 78 in three years so I am looking for something to drive.

An f-car guy I bumped into a year or so ago bought an early GTB off ebay for about $17,000. It was a funky color (orange) but turned out to be an early euro dry sump fiberglass car. Excuse me "vetroresina" I mean..... Good thing it was fiberglass, he bought it out of northern Alaska!

Yes, pretty amazing! The goofy seller didn't know he had a very special car! And, correspondingly, neither did the buyer as it was his first ferrari. The buyer soon educated himself thereafter (via f-chat here), and was very pleased to say the least......
