    Vettel the best

F1 ruined by engine politics - Walter Wolf - Formula 1 News

One of the brightest aspects of F1 is, according to Wolf, Ferrari's main star.
"You know that a Canadian manages Ferrari? The CEO is Sergio Marchionne, from Hamilton in Ontario. He's one of the best managers around. Look at what he did.
"Ferrari is not finished yet this season. He got right away the best driver in the world, Sebastian Vettel, and they are going to sort out the car also.
"For me the best driver in the world - and not because I have a German background - is Vettel. Not [Lewis] Hamilton.
"Hamilton is very good, but he has an excellent car. The engine in that Mercedes is unbelievable. But Vettel will be world champion again, if not this year, then next year."

While I don't think Vettel is the best, I think he will win more championships and it will be for Ferrari. He will go down in history right behind Schumacher

There was a long - and interesting - interview of him in "Motorsport magazine" a few months back, in their "Lunch with..." series.
(Hoipe it was only a few months back, not already a year!)

Found it: January 2015 issue, printed at the beginning of December: almost a year!

Really, just can't leave it alone can you..... Other opinions count, not just yours. Ricciardo this year is struggling with kyvatt, I suggest you recognise that the car is a handful, and was last year too. Vettel is very very fast and much more reliable than elton

Just put the broken record on ignore. Try and not to hit the ''show post'' too often. All we can hope for is it will go away...

    On topic:

I can go with what WW said. Speedwise between Hamilton and Vettel there's very little in it; Vettel is the overall better package though. Just as able to put in fast qualis, better awareness of where others are, uses his head better in stressful situations (doesn't ramp over others when he's had a bad start for the sake of trying to be in front at the end of lap 1).

Hamilton vs. Vettel. Both very fast and I agree, there's very little in it. But Vettel drives like a machine - rarely makes mistakes, is the better race tactician, and is cooler or more level headed during a race. Given the same car, Hamilton will probably get the edge in qualifying head to head but Vettel will win more races.

Puts down my opinion and then posts rubbish himself...

Vettel doesn't have the raw pace Hamilton has. Hamiltons awareness is as good as anyone's now. Nothing like the massa days. And to those who say he's always at the front - his drives through the field last year were masterful.

Kimi in that Ferrari flatters Vettel because he's so terrible. If Ferrari ever put a real talent in the other seat you'll see.... But they won't. They are a team that likes team orders and a recognised number 1 driver

Isn't it true that every racer would like to join the glamour team (Ferrari)

Looks like you will never learn the difference between knowing and understanding.
That reminds me of what one of my old teachers wrote in the book of a fellow student: "you could have gone very, very far, hadn't you be so sure to know so much".

What would Walter Wolf know? He just owned one of the most successful privateer teams in Formula 1 history versus someone who started following Formula 1 recently..... No offense, but I am going to listen to the guy that won Formula 1 races and came second in his first year as a constructor and employed Jody Scheckter, James Hunt, Harvey Postlethwaite and was best friends with Gilles Villenueve. I always loved the Wolf WR1. Walter has a good points about the engine formula.

Relax. This one is easy. One of them is a 4 times wdc who is able to win in a POS second rate car. The other isn't. It's no contest. Ferrari have the better more strategically and tactically aware driver. Merc just have a fast sprinter who needs endless coaching and management to get results.

People still underestimate Vettel, even with 4 titles under his belt.

I think he is the best driver on the grid, and not Alonso, or Hamilton.

A great asset for Ferrari, I would have thought.

Many thanks, I will look up the article. WW was one of the last privateers when F1 was still a sport--an alien concept these days.

I am no fan of Nigel Mansell, but on this issue, I think he is right.

We can always count on you linking these fantastic stories. Once again thank you!

I became a fan of Walter wolf when I was younger after seeing a Walter wolf countach. (not in real life, unfortunately). I knew that he was ex f1 but I love the story behind it :)

Weren't people saying the same about Alonso/Hamilton when Vettel was winning in a dominant Red Bull? (Answer: YES! The prevailing sentiment was that Vettel was good in clean air, but he wasn't a 'racer' like Alonso and Hamilton. People pointed to collisions with Webber when they were going at it for his first title as proof).

Any of those three can be considered 'the best' of this era for countless reasons. Vettel is every bit as good as his four WDC's. Nobody can change the narrative on that.

I won't mate, it's a time bomb that finds its way into any thread, you could see it coming a mile off as soon as the thread started. Walter wolf knows what he's talking about, he's seen them all
