And, for those who like stories from the past... Never heard about the 1993 season at McLaren, when Mika Häkkinen was "reserve driver" and suddenly promoted to race driver, and team-mate to Ayrton Senna, and, despite having been out of the races for almost a year, beat Ayrton fair and square in the qualifications for the Portuguese Grand Prix? And about how Ayrton, having never said one word to Mika up to this day, came sheepishly to ask the boy "where he found that extra speed in the first curve"? And of Mika's answer, which was priceless? Rgds
+1 Don't recall the exact quote - I'm sure Nero will be along soon, but IIRC it was something very closely related to the size, or lack thereof, of his cojones....... Cheers, Ian
He said nothing, but smiled at Ayrton, and put his two hands together in front of his pants to tell Ayrton: "No secret, I've got bigger balls than you, that's all". (you all know, of course, that Mika has a mischevious sense of humor...) Ayrton then erupted in a fury of anger, telling Mika -who was ten years his senior - how many races he had won, how many pole positions, etc...for about half an hour, and never, ever, spoke to him after that, even when Mika tried to tell him: "but come on, it was only a joke". Speaking about "Motorsport Magazine", as I did at the beginning of the thread, there was a very interesting interview of Gordon Kimball, race engineer at Mc Laren, about what Senna did understand of a racing car three or four issues back... Rgds
He simply grabbed his balls saying balls, , lolo Ayrton was furious, he didn't talk to him for days...
Exactly 22 years ago, and Portugal does not have a Grand Prix anymore. Nor does France, for that matter...but Jean Alesi is still around! Rgds
IF you want to talk about how great some one is - you can only measure their greatness by comparing to others.
Yap, now we have crap circuits, like Sochi, Yas marina, Singapur, Valencia, bahrain, and so many others.....and crap drivers too..(don't need to mention who ...but they were mates at Mclaren, lolo)....those days we still had good circuits, Estoril was very good, AS you said Jean is still around but now i will be keeping an eye on his son, he seems to be doing pretty well...
Love the Motorsport "Lunch With" interviews as well as podcast interviews they are always very interesting and entertaining. Motorsport is the best publication going, great mix of the past and present and the writing is fantastic. I have the online subsciption along with the print and the access to the archives of all of the previous issues is worh the price alone.
Senna and co drove when you had to actually drive the cars, not like now, where the engineers help them manage everything, and they can't use full power for more than a handful of laps. I think I've seen it all when the hambone fanboys announce to the world that they know better than Walter wolf on drivers and f1 in general....... I'm sure the paddock will now take notice of them for their insightful (or rather in-cite-full) views on drivers. I can imagine red bull, should they stay in f1, may even put them in charge of the driver program to utilise their skills and experience. LOL. There are threads where you just know it isn't worth bothering
Yep...I see no reason at all why Niki has no bias in this situation And what is the basis of the statement that niki knows more? That's completely fished out of the air... Having read Wolf's story, he knew a **** load...look at the guys he brought to the scene! Brawn, Newey...from nowhere!
If Nikki didn't truly believe it he could easily just say nothing at all... I mean you guys already think he (and the team) favours Lewis...saying that would affect nico surely Niki knows what to look for as a 3 times wdc
And saying anything of the sort HAS affected Nico, or don't you watch races? Nico has been emasculated by Lauda and toto since spa last year publicly, and probably internally much sooner. It's why lots of people respect him as a driver and a man, while lots wouldn't put out Elton if he was on fire
LOLO, i guess you missed the part when lauda said he trully believed Alonso was the fastest driver...just last week, when he completed 250 gps!!! The same Lauda that called him a dog and threw him under the bus!!! I love Niki, but he says a lot of bull****.....In his entire life the only 2 drivers he actually said were the best he ever saw where Gilles and Senna, period.
If you want to know if Merc favours anyone, look back to the 2nd race in 2013. Lewis only just joined the team and a MUCH faster Rosberg was told to hold back and NOT overtake. I'm sure we'll hear some other bs excuse though.
The rat says whatever suits his mind games at the time when talking about his own team, he couldn't care less about anything except the win. That means, to him and toto, keep Nico down and subservient to their golden boy
So Vettel is slower than Kyvatt too? Didn't Vettel fail took win a race last year while good team mate win 2? Equal cars here...https://youtu.be/kDkK8a4jHZ8
Hamilton cannot be the best driver because he's got the best car! - Toil has said so in this thread: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/f1/503291-lucky-lewis-2.html (Post #33) Essentially, Toil has stated that a driver who wins the WDC due to having a superior car cannot be deemed to be a worthy Champion, therefore, ipso facto, they cannot be deemed to be the best driver - So that rules out Hamilton. So that basically confirms Vettel as the best driver in F1! Why?: 1) He doesn't drive the car with the most superior performance. 2) He drives for Ferrari (instantly making him one of the two best drivers in F1 - Kimi being the other one naturally!) 3) He wins races in his Ferrari. Why not Alonso you may ask?: Does he drive for Ferrari? - End of!
