Oh my..... Red Bull is "well on the way" to achieving the same sort of "mythical status" as fellow grandee F1 teams like Ferrari. That is the claim of Sebastian Vettel, who after winning his third consecutive drivers championship with the energy drink-owned team played down persistent rumours he could soon make the move to fabled Ferrari. "Clearly Ferrari and Mercedes have a great history and a kind of mythical status," the German told Sport Bild. "But were well on the way to achieving the same with Red Bull. Realising it needs to be our goal," added Vettel. F1 legend Niki Lauda, however, can imagine Vettel eventually hanging up his Red Bull helmet and making the switch to another top team. "He will eventually move somewhere else," fellow triple world champion Lauda, who won his titles with Ferrari and McLaren, told CNN. "Its normal. Any skier changes his skis every year so you have to change your cars at least once in your history." Former Renault boss Flavio Briatore, however, ruled out the concept of Vettel joining Fernando Alonso at Ferrari. "It only works in a dream," he told Italian radio Rai. "It would be a disaster."
Your title, and his words, seem to be in disarray. He SAID he'd wants to work on getting RB there. He didn't say they had established it. I'd say it'd take doing well for another 10 years. Record books aren't quite as important as age when it comes to the "mythical status" of Ferrari.
I know this is a Ferrari site and I´m biased. BUT WHAT A LOAD OF BS. Ferrari is mythical because it´s the last survivor of an era that will never come back. Furthermore, Red Bull should have been created by a mysterious mad man with sunglasses, not by a millionaire as a promotional stunt for his beverages.
+ a gazillion No other team can even come close because they can't rewrite F1 history. To me the road cars and the sports cars (Le Mans etc) aren't even what attracts me to Ferrari. For me it is about them having been part of F1 every year since its existance. And that's untouchable. If it wasn't for Ferrari, Lotus would be my next best interest. Followed by McLaren. Something lke the cans that's a few years old? C'mon! Get real.
I'd say Mclaren, as a F1 team, got its status from the 80's with their carbon fiber cars, and Senna/Prost. They've had bad years, but have had competition years for championships thrown in. That is 30 years after a dominant streak. When Vettel retires, add twenty or thirty years. I do agree with him though, if he sticks with the team, and fights for championships year after year, retires, and the team keeps ticking, they'll get there. He might be wheeling around in a wheelchair.
Red Bull's mythical status comes from them being the first drink company owned team to achieve suchassove success. And I'd hardly call that mythical. Red Bull and the word 'Newey' in this era will forever be synonymous, and Newey has been attached with many teams and cars. So of anything, I believe they will simply be known as 'Newey era Red Bull cars' rather than just Red Bull
I agree. RB should now design and sell a top performance exotic to rise up to the McLarn/Ferrari level. Such a RB streetcar would sell like hotcakes.
They are on a roll right now so kudos to them but lets see what happens to them sans Newey. That will be the true test of the organization.
Red Bull saying they're mythical would be like Benetton saying they're mythical. Well, not quite but you get what I'm saying. Red Bull is still private and in the coming 7-10 years or less I would not be in the least bit surprised if Pepsi or Coke made a serious move on them OR, Pepsi and Coke's marketshare for their energy drinks eats up Red Bull's marketshare thus forcing Red Bull out of the game and up for sale. Pepsi and Coke's energy drinks have been whittling down Red Bull's energy drink business at a very steady rate, Red Bull started with around 78% of the market in the mid 2000s and now they are around 50-60%. Red Bull are racing off a short pier IMO.
Newey renewed with RB until 2014 correct? It seem's he has been rejuvinated yet I still question his motivation to continue after his RB contract expires. I cannot truthfully comment on or refute if Vettel actually said such a thing but if he did he must be on crack. If those words are true, and I do not care for him anyway, he will never surpass any of MS's F1 records muchless 7 WDC's. Yes MS may be or have been one of his mentors but I do not invision a long F1 career for Vettel. I have a funny feeling about a pending something or the other.
