Makes sense if he arrives. Ferrari tend to hire their #1 rather than grow from with-in. I think the major caveat is if Ferrari are in a winning position. Why leave the Bull if Ferrari are like they are now. I think if he wins another title this year, the last place he goes is Ferrari.

A different viewpoint would be that if he wins this year, he's proven it all to himself and can steer the "legend" way by trying to win a championship with Ferrari, the same that Alonso does right now.

Very true of course! Would apply to LH as well I suppose.

This doesn't make sense to me, because IMO Vettel and Hamilton are both super fast guys, and I cannot see Vettel wanting to play 2nd fiddle.

Absolutey! With the difference that Hamilton hopefully tries to build a winning team out of Mercedes, whereas Alonso and potentially Vettel are not joining a desolate team.

Why would he? Or do you think that Ferrari would favour Alonso if they signed Vettel? Never!
You doný spend an absurd amount of money to make him play second to none....If Vettel comes, he will have the exact same treatment as Alonso, and than the trck will determine who is nº1. Even when KIMi was earning 5 times Felipe salary he wasn´t geting better treatment, the moment Massa started to beat him, they didn´t hold him back.

I think Vettel + Alonso will cause to much of a headache once the toys start flying. I'm confident that, unless Alonso calls it quits for 2014, Vettel will remain at Red Bull. A brand new Newey design against 11 other brand new others designs; I know where I'd best be...Neweys greatest rival, Rory Byrne is not back and likely won't be for then either.

I truly hope LH can assist there and build a team for Mercedes to move on and up! It would be a great thing for him to coincide with another title.

As long as Newey is RB's designer, I can't see Vettel going to Ferrari..... unless Newey comes too. Then it's going to be chaos with Alonso & Vettel, I hope Vettel stays put, at least until Alonso retires.

Ask Ron Dennis about paying top dollar for a driver and letting them fight on equal footing, against another hotshot, it doesn't work.

Alonso/Ferrari appear to state, that Alonso has a say in whom his team mate is, I repeat, I cannot understand why Alonso would want Vettel but not Hamilton, if it was purely based on racing pace and skill as a driver, they are both very very good.

Seems "we're" also forgetting that Seb is under contract to the Cans thru the end of 2014.

OK, we know the value of contracts in F1, but the fact remains he'd cost 'em huge money to buy out and then give him a new contract. They did it with Kimi (in reverse), but as long as Fred remains (thru 2016) I can't see it.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Remember, when Schumacher went to Ferrari, they were doing even worse than they are now, and that didn't stop him, so there's no reason why it would stop Vettel. But I don't think that he would join Ferrari if Alonso is still there.

Shumacher took all the key people who made Benneton a championship team, that and he was given pretty much total control over alot of decisions.

Even being Ferrari, you just never can have all the stars aligned your way. A good analogy everybody can relate to is selling your house, and buying the perfect new house expecting to close on both on the same day. If Vettel becomes 'available', either by end of contract or buying him out, Ferrari would be stupid not to jump on him while it can, especially when Alonso has the intent to retire in 2016. And yes, the 'prima donna' Alonso wouldn't like it, but he wouldn't leave Ferrari even if he could. If that happens, I'd predict something like Seb already went thru at RedBull. The elder 'rooster' driver would b*tch and moan for a season or two, but when it's obvious who's #1, things calm down. Hey, no job is perfect. And it shouldn't be when you're making that much dough :D. I seriously doubt Alonso is making the decisions who his partner is or will be; that's just ridiculous. He might be allowed to give his opinion, which might or might not coincide with LdM, but that's about it IMO.

Bottom line is if Ferrari could have both Newey and Vettel, it'd be like a hole-in-one. And they wouldn't even give Alonso a second thought. I'd like to see that... and the feud between the 2 'roosters' < he he>. For one, I don't see that becoming the cat fight some predict. I'd be more civil, just like Webbo and SV, especially driving for Ferrari. Everybody wants to drive for Ferrari, even if it's not under ideal conditions. We'll find out in a year what happens. Good day.

Seb would be a fool to leave the RB organization.
And drivers never make foolish moves.
    Ask Lewis.

It gets to a point you want a new challenge. Lewis wasn't the best move, but Seb is in good terms, and with 2, 3 or 4 titles on his hand when leaving, plus having started with the fastest car, I'd also like to challenge myself and make it happen with a 'losing' team with potential. And which team better than Ferrari? It'd be great for both sides IMO.

I'd stay with the winning team, and apparently so would you. But we're not a top F1 driver :D. When you have your financial future secured, and you haven't really challenged yourself so far, top drivers/riders want that man. Just ask Valentino Rossi, Michael Schumacher, etc. Not always works out, granted, but it's in their DNA to find new challenges. I don't see Seb renewing his contract with RB, even with the great relationship he seems to have with the team. We'll find out in a year who's right :).

I'm really curious to see how Alonso will handle another driver that's very similar to himself. Possibly too much competition in one garage? I get the feeling Alonso likes to be THE number one, things could get ugly.

As do I. I imagine Hamilton had enough of the lack of reliabilty. Seems there's been an issue to the car almost every race.
