Rumor mill turning again: Apparently a British newspaper (tabloid?) reports that Vettel has an option to drive for Ferrari starting in 2014 depending on the Scuderia being competitive by then. Meanwhile Webber would take over for Massa for 2013. http://www.motorsport-aktuell.com/automobil/geruechtekueche-ferrari-vorvertrag-fuer-vettel-4982564.html I'd love nothing more than to see Vettel at Ferrari. I wonder whether that also implies that Alonso would be retiring by then? I don't see them together in the same team.
The rumor mill never stopped turning. I would rather see Nico, Kobi or Perez in the next open Ferrari seat.
Also posted on Sky but that states Alonso contract is on till 2016 so they would drive together. Tho part of the rumour also suggests that Webber going to Ferrari would mean Lewis would head to Red Bull http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/24179/7780998/Vettel-linked-with-Ferrari-move Who knows
The optional contract a couple years ahead of time is exactly how Kimi went to Ferrari when everybody else said that ain't gonna happen with MS there etc.
I personally would like to see this happen as it poses a temporary fix, as well as a long term solution. An Alonso-Vettel team would be good for the stable
As it is right now, I'd rather not see Vettel at Ferrari. Vettel's talent would be wasted there right now, just as Alonso's talent is being wasted. Everyone says FA is phenomenal at developing a car, and even he cannot help Ferrari get their act together. I don't think Vettel would be any different. Ferrari needs to get management together before they worry about getting the best in the cockpit, because arguably, the best may already be there. Mark
P1 in the title chase isn't good enough with Clifford?.... Seems he's doing a pretty good job to me. Cheers, Ian
You...uh....do know a Ferrari driver is leading the WDC right? I've been impressed with Ferrari this year. Turned a crap car around with the help of FA's immense skill, have had incredible pit stops, etc. Domenicali is doing just fine. Ease up on our boys!
Not a Vettel fan, but can't deny his talent. A Vettel+Alonso combo would bring together arguably the two best and most consistent world champions currently on the grid. Are they a good personality fit though? I'm with Tifo and don't know what some of you guys are smoking but Ferrari has done an amazing job and has clearly turned the pos F2012 around. Like they have said multiple times, the first few races of the season have been purely damage control and heading into the europe was when they were planning a strong comeback and stage a fight for top position vs midfield. They've done exactly that w/ Alonso's talent, and as much as I hate Massa, he actually showed signs of life this past weekend and looks to gradually improve and bag some more points for the team at every race moving forward.
P1 in the WDC with the F2012? How many people would have taken your bet and laughed you off the forum after Australia. Fred is OVER PERFORMING with this car and Ferrari has developed it at lightning pace to make it respectable. Even Massa looks racy now! Hats off to them for this leap made from Maranello. I do give zero credit to LDM though .
At this moment, Alonso is the best driver and the most complete package in F1. In fact, I would say that he has been the best driver for the past 2 seasons now. Had Ferrari been able to provide him a competitive car, Alonso would have dominated much like how Schumacher had done at Ferrari. I find it facinating to see how both of them had developed through the years, both as rookies with shear speed and then as mature, total package on and off the tracks, especially with Alonso. Vettel is no doubt fast and I will like to see him at Ferrari in the future, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon.
I don't think Fernando is any better than Vettel or Hamilton. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and putting them all together I'd say they come out even. Any of them with the right car and a team not screwing things up for them would dominate just the same.
this is not entirely true. of the group, Alonso, like Schumacher, is instrumental in developing the car for Ferrari. Vettel and Hamilton inherited great cars, whereas Alonso has not. since his arrival to Ferrari, Alonso has not been a PR nightmare when the chips are down. I cannot say the same for Hamilton.
Alonso inherited a great at Mclaren and a rookie team mate, but that was the trouble the rookie was to good...haha Hahaha, what good is development when they are not allowed to test, I believe Alonso is very good though, but hardly a sell point when you cannot put it to use. Alonso at Mclaren with Ham yeh brilliant..PR. You saying Ham can't set his car up, he is just given it top spec to ride thats more bollox. Alonso at Renault with Flav, you think he wasn't in on his team mates shunt in the wall..more great PR. Laughable, Mr bucket is near the mark.
Not sure about that: True, testing is mostly banned. That's why I think a driver who can develop a car, meaning give usefull feedback to the engineers after every time he run it, is even more important than it ever was. I think Alonso is doing precisely that. The fact that the car is a turd is caused by other (political) factors, not his lack of feedback. This is also one of the reasons why Massa is utterly useless. All he does is hang to the car hoping not to throw it off the track. I doubt Ferrari gets any meaningful feedback from his sessions. Another thing I'm not sure about: Vettel spent some time with "Minardi" and it was enough to get that POS to the top of the podium. Then he went on to spend quite some time with RedBull. The car wasn't dominating when he got there but it ultimately became that after some time. I don't know enough to say that this was down to him but the "artifacts" point into that direction. What is true however is to have a known and constant quantity as a driver (and not just known, but proven to be superbly fast) as your ultimate bench mark. If the car goes backwards, you know that it wasn't the driver but your changes to the car. In that sense having a Vettel, Hamilton or Alonso in the cockpit is priceless.
No it means the point he raised I agreed with, (that being about the extent of testing allowed) and also the rest of the post, you did notice he replied to 2 posts .....that was mine and mkultra's ...
