6 races into the season and Vettel has won 5, and been on pole 5 times. When he hasn't won, he's been second. He's already 58 points clear of the second place driver (Hamilton) which means he can take a 2 race holiday and still hold the WDC lead. Even if he only comes 2nd and Hamilton wins consistently, it will take 9 races for him to lose the WDC lead. So - is the season effectively over already? Realistically, who has a chance of catching him? If the season is over, won't ticket sales and viewing figures for the later GPs drop off a cliff? If so, when will Bernie start to worry about the $$ in his pocket?!

2 more wins and its effectively done. Time is running out and Mclaren are the only team with a reasonable chance for victory over them. Ferrari still need a bit more time. Certainly 1 never knows. :)

Practical answer: A quick look at Button's WDC season and you will have your answer...

Real answer: It ain't over 'till every other driver is mathematically eliminated. You just never know.

Yeah but look how difficult it was for Button in the last 5 or 6 races or so, cause everyone had caught up with their double diffuser. And look what's happening this year, they're reducing the blown diffuser which is their sort of party piece that their car is based around.

So for me I'd with the practical answer.

That was my point. People were saying the same thing about Button in '09. IIRC JB won 6 out of the first 7,... and not another after that. He barely held on... and required some misfortune of others to do so.

But, different teams / times. I believe RBR continues to develop the car,... while in '09 Braun seemed to lack the resources to keep developing the car during the season...

That said... 2 DNF's and things will quickly be very different. But at this point,... misfortune must pay a calling to Vettel or it is already over.

The only race he lost was due to him 2 stopping instead of 3....monaco he was lucky but to win the wdc one needs some of that..after canada the upcoming circuits will favor RB so although Mac will do well in montreal I think it will be VERY HARD to catch him. Don't forget Rb is developing their car also; newey ain't standing still..

In years to come we'll be looking back at the "Vettel" era as we do the Senna and Schumacher eras.
    Enjoy it.

You could well be right. Vettel and Newey are one hell of a team.

I agree with the 2 above posts.

Newey has never had a real "superstar" driver to work around...

The closest was with Mansell at Williams, but he was long in the tooth and just hanging on to FINALLY win a WDC.

With Vettel's youth, "the future looks bright, he's gotta wear shades"

A Newey/Vettel combo along with Red Bull money behind it has the POTENTIAL to be every bit as dominant as the Ferrari/Schumi/Brawn/Byrne combo of the 2000s...

Not an easy thing for a tifosi to swallow, but the reality of the situation...

Last year Ferrari mounted a challenge from this far back. Also, Bernie's money is "in the can" as they say in Hollywood.

When comparing this year to last year, there is one important difference... Last year, Vettel took the WDC lead as a result of winning the last race of the season. He was part of the chasing pack. This year, he has the lead - and not just an 'outside chance' slim lead, but a monster 'jeeze look at the size of that' lead.

I still don't believe Vettel is in the Alonso/Schumacher (original of course) category yet as his car is just insane. If the RB7 were on-par or maybe only a tenth quicker than the Mclaren then my opinion would be different, but it's not. RB7 when pushed is stupidly quicker than everyone else. Heck, Mark Webber had the fastest lap at Monaco and if a driver like Mark can do that then you know it's the car not the driver.

Vettel definitely has this in the bag. Teams should start focusing on next season, IMO. Red Bull have all the money and resources in the world. Nothing is going to slow them down now.

The way I look at it, the only way Vettel can lose this, or, have someone challenge him, is if he gets tangled in the first corner the next couple of races, and forced to retire. If he wins the next two, then as I mention, they should look for next year.
