Anyone have a favorite place to send home VHS-C tapes to get converted to DVD? thanks!
DVD is going to be an old format soon too and homeburned CD's and DVD's do not last well at all. Why not digitise the video, keep the original digitised files as a backup, convert them to new files using Handbrake Apple TV2 format and put them in your iTunes. Then use an Apple TV2 to watch them on your TVs. You need a VCR with component output, and capture software and hardware and Handbrake http://handbrake.fr/ http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_hdpvr.html http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/easy-vhs-to-dvd/standard/overview.html
How many do you have to convert? There's a ton of places that'll do it, but it tends to get expensive..... My 02c if you're going to farm it out is someone local - You drop off the first few (say, one DVD's worth) as something of a test for them - Get the disc and your tapes back and make sure it's "good" (As good as it can be of course!). Mailing what are presumably valuable tapes to some anonymous lab across the country is asking for trouble IMO. Another alternative is DIY - Assuming you can still play the tapes there's plenty of options that will get 'em onto your computer and thence out to DVD - You may even become a video editor along the way...... Cheers, Ian
If you still have the VHS-C camera, you can buy one of these and do it a whole lot cheaper yourself. I got one for my boss and he loves it. http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Dazzle/
Awww VCRs.... my dad has a dual VCR and DVD player. I think it also has a record function, I'm sure you can find those in pawn shops and craigslist aplenty
