I've got a bit of a vibration issue in my 03 boxster s. Its right around 2800-3000rpm, and i feel it most in 3rd gear, however it turns into a kind of pulsing in 6th on the highway. I'm thinking motor mount, but I'm not sure. I just had the wheels and tires roadforce balanced, though it could still be that. But that wouldn't explain feeling it around that RPM all the time.

to determine if it's suspension/wheels related get to the speed where it usually does it and go into neutral. if there than it's tires/wheels.
if it only vibrates in gear then it could be transmission or driveshaft related. engine mount would be the last area to look at.

Hmmm, well I guess I'll have to look at the wheels then, it still vibrated in neutral. Thanks!

I bet against your wheels and motor mount, I've seen my fair share of this Boxster issue and it can be couple of things. Search the net for "Boxster vibration rpm" and you should see quite a few complaints. I've been to the local Porsche dealer twice for this one issue on two different cars and was told it was normal and usual for the Boxster engine. Just because the issue arises with numerous cars doesn't mean it's normal.

Some have claimed they had clutch work done and it solved the problem, other looked into the flywheel, I really doubt it's suspension related.

Let me throw this into the equation. I drive the same way to and from work everyday. Some days I feel it a lot more than others. Yesterday i felt it pretty good on the drive home. Today, on the way it it was just a small vibration. Does that make any sense?

Ok, took it to my indy mechanic. He drove it and said it seemed like a tire balance problem so he took off the rear and put them on the roadforce balancing machine. Turns out the rears are eggshaped. Both are bent. We have no idea how the previous owner did that, but he did. So I'm sending them off to be re-rounded.

Balance issue sounds correct, also check the tire pressure. Boxsters are very sensitive to tire pressure. I just put a set of PS2's on mine and the ride is unbeliveable. Have fun with your toy!
