I'm sure most of you have heard of this series that was licensed to The Speed Channel a while back. I felt I had to post the fact that I was so overwhelmed with how incredible the Ferrari video was I ended up buying the whole series (Ferrari, Maserati (also one of the best of the series), Aston Martin, Alfa, Jag, and Porsche). Seriously, the fact that Alain de Cadenet (fantastic racer from old) had access to all these cars to drive (and drive hard by the way) is a once in a lifetime opportunity for any current or past driver as well as killer for any die hard car guy (or gal) to be able to watch (makes you think twice about how protective some of us are re: driving our hot cars in less than perfect conditions). He literally pushes some 10-20mm cars HARD on private/closed roads (and some tracks). The end credits also show who lent cars for the show...incredible.

Well worth it, did it come in BlueRay or other HD? I think that type 35 Bugatti drive was the best view I ever had of one of these cars (long time just about favorite vintage racing car). And never in my life had I ever seen an Alfa Bimotore.

YES! Great Series and almost magical for the Ferraris.

The Alfa Bimotore, is incredible, and even moreso that it still exists and is drivable! Tazio Nuvolari, seems to have been the only driver on the Scuderia, who could drive it, but not tame it. It was the FIRST FERRARI!!!

Right - that Bimotore gave me the chills just looking at it. It must have made for a great preparatory ride before he got into an Auto Union - nothing to fear from Dr. Porsche after the Bimotore, eh?

The Porsche edition is done a bit differently than the rest...he rarely drives any of the P-Cars in video. I like the latter format...much cooler.

Is it me or does he seem like he is close to losing some of the cars a few times? I fully realize how difficult it is to maintain control of a tough to operate solid axle car with some power on rough roads but I couldn't help but think that after some of those owners watched how their cars were pushed they had second thoughts.

Can someone tell me who this Lord Bamford is? He has effectively cornered the "important" car market...holly cr_p! Excavating must pay well in the U.K.!

    James,

My exact thoughts and feelings, as you have expressed them!

Enzo Ferrari, had that beast built, with the limited resources at Alfa-Romeo, to try to compete with Scuderia Adolf Hitler, Auto-Union and Mercedes-Benz, during the mid-thirties. From what I've read, it was very fast, but almost uncontrolable, with the brakes totally inadequate. I understand Ferrari's respect and awe of Tazio Nuvolari's, pure skill and GOD given gifts, the more I read about the man. A God amongst mortals, when it came to driving any car, to it's maximum.

It's great to see anything on Victory by Design! It's rare in motorjournalism, to see something this good! I hope there are more of them, for us to watch in the future.

    Ciao...Paolo

Alan has already done the Corvette but I really wish that Jay Leno would do something similar for the US car makes. His website is full of information on the subject, it would be a great way to teach us the history of cars here in the US.

He did a show about the early F1 cars also. I thought this was Victory by Design, but, it isn't part of the 6 DVD set. Anyone know what series it was?

EDIT: Never mind, I found it, it was Grand Prix Greats.

Legendary Sports Cars is cool because so many of the great drivers are featured and discuss their memories of each of the cars. Then, they drive them...hard...on the Bamford estate as they do today on VBD.

It was cool to see Derek Bell in the 250GTO as well as Surtees, Moss and Ickx do the narration where Alain does it today.

I have been envious of de Cadenet's access to such cars since I first saw him ripping around a private weed-filled-cracked track on the show  One of the best shows for certain.
