This comes from the " talk is cheap and a video is worth a thousand pictures schoool of thought" This is a run we did Dec 12th with 3 people in the car. I was showing off the top end speed and stability to my friends. Trust me you're gonna like this video. (This video has to be on google because its currently the only service to allow >100mb uploads) It was shot with the camcorder in the passenger headrest. VIDEO GOOGLE http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6982451818085711576 Hope you guys like ths video Next video will be of the 996GT2 and M6 By the way , this stretch of road runs about 20+ miles . Its a dual carriage way and the part we shot the video at has no cars visble for 10 miles in front of us Opposing traffic runs on 2 totally different roads separated by trees and a huge divider
Can't see the video until I get home, I'm on my phone, but the M6's def are quick as hell, especially up top! What is done to the GT2? I ran 2 guys I know on Ocean Parkway this summer in my turbo, I pulled the m6 so hard it wasn't funny than my friends GT600 GT2 was able to walk past me up over 140 even with me being rwd, guess it was those K24s on the top end!
I see many cars on the road.....doing 170 with that many cars around, and three buddies in the car is not smart. Looks like Ocean Parkway on LI to me.
Whoever made this video is a ****ing idiot. 170mph on U.S. roads (Long Island?) with three people in the car; music blasting and plenty of cars on the road? Passing on the right at 100mph? In europe, more drivers are aware of high end exotic cars doing those speeds. Drivers in the United States are NO where near capable with dealing with fast moving cars on the road. Yes, the car is very capable of those speeds. But obviously, the driver is not. ( I say this with confidence being that he was blasting the music as well as just by observing his form of driving behavior) Yes, I speed. yes there are places in the U.S. where you can punch it at those speeds. My point is. There is a time and place for everything. That video is great to show you what NOT to do.
Nope definetly not Ocean Pkway/LIE... Obviously I cannot tell you where except that the road runs for over 20 miles and is virtually dead straight in both directions
Come on now.. I respect your opinion on this matter except for the the music blasting....Now thats no offense This was not shot on the LIE by the way. That's technically impossible at any time of day to be done safely. Well said...the M6 is very very capable at those speeds..very capable. Of course you do or you wouldn't be driving that car I take your opinion The video just captures the run We were not engaging in street racing and the music is not a distraction to driving At the end of the video we were doing a demonstration of the breaking in preparation for the U-turn. the driving at this point is deliberatel aggressive on the breaks. My friend wanted to know how quickly and smoothly the cross drilled brakes work. I have attended several drviving progrsmmes including the M school at Spartanburg south Carolina. Your comments are fully understood by me though Next time the music will be off and the road will be clearly empty ok. No disrespect intended ok. I appreciate all your comments though and thanks
Will do...I always drive with some form of music on Next time thoug we'll shoot with only the sound of the engine. NO MUSIC
My point about the music is this: At those speeds, any change in air sound/tire noise, or engine noise should be heard by the pilot. As an educated driver, you should know this. They teach that in basic driving school; all your senses should be aware of what is going on in and outside of the cockpit when driving aggressively. I was driving at a spirited rate around 3am on an empty highway once.. I was in the left lane when in 5th gear when I started to hear a weird noise from the engine. RPMS remained steady, no warning signs on dash. Because of this noise, i slowed to below 50mph within a few seconds. Within about 5 seconds of hearing the original noise, the engine blew. (I literally mean blew up). I lost all electronics, power steering, and had NO head lights. If i hadn't decreased my speed, I don't know what would have happened with driving at those speeds in the dark with no headlights.
It's crazy how fast the speedo jumps up - the view out the window isn't so hot so you can't see the road (although in cockpit videos it's always hard to judge, looks slower than it is).
The pulling power of the is insanely fast above 130 mph. After the rpm of the M6 passes 5000rpm and with speeds above 130mph its simply a monster at pulling. You can compare it with this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=6DzsdSWTMug I know alot of people have commented on the number of passengers People are probably accostomed to these type of speeds and pulling power with regular 2 door spors cars The M6 comfortably seats 4 people . The car is brutally fast and my friend who has a 996Gt2 can attest to the pulling power above 130mph This video in my opinion really clearly demonstrtates what a BMW M6 can do and remeber this...this car hit the speed limiter in 6th delimited M6's in Europe are hitting 186mph in 6th the car has 7 gears look at the rpm in 6th when we hit the limiter. We were not ecven close to redline which is at 8250rpm Thanks for your honest commenets
It sounds like you have raced an M6 before How did you really find the top end speed from your perspective??? Seems like you pull hard in your car at the top end aswsell
Yes i have, 2 M6's (one person i know one i didnt) and 2 M5's (again my friend in one and another guy just pulling on highway) I mean its pretty unfair to compair my modded turbo to a stock M5 or M6, but it was fairly impressive for how quick they are stock and for how heavy they are, the gearing/engine are wonderfull i must say, love them more than ever! The turbo is vicious up top, especially modded, just like the V10's and 7 speed gearing in your cars I mean im not going to say how bad i beat them, but it was instant pulling and pulling by length's at a time until i shut it down, but again its unfair to compare the two! I would say lets do a run and film it, but i just sold my car, sitting in my garage all detailed waiting for the check to clear, then new owner from Queens will pick it up! Next up hmm dont know, i was looking at several m6's, wanted to maybe try one out but i dont know, havent driven one yet only M5, SMG was amazing compared to M3 smg but still didnt thrill me, probably GT2 or wait for 997 GT3 since im on the list we'll see Martin
Man I wish I had seen you when you still had that modded monster. I'm sure that you outright killed the M6 and M5 you raced form the sounds of your car. I tend to keep all my cars stock except for the installed laser jammer. Well we are having a meet this sunday with a bunch of modded cars. i would've asked you to join us but now you've sold the car. the link can be found here: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=86448 we will have a modded GT2 and modded Z06 along for the ride so it should be fun to seeon video Thanks for the comments and enjoy the weekend
Dammit i want to go badly, the car is sitting in my garage fully detailed, waiting for the check to clear in the bank. Like i mentioned in another run thread, the guy buying it wants me to show him what the car can do, and to take him for an all out run with me driving LOL, im kind of scared to do it though since its so close, and knowing my luck blah ! Maybe i will come, dont count me out. BTW im only at the beginning stages of turbo modding, im stg 3 with 506 rwhp and 518 rwtq, im pretty much MAXED on the stock turbos, but its just such a good setup! I would love a ride in your car full out though, i havent gotten anyone who can "drive" theirs to give me a ride, i'll pm you! Martin
If you can make it ,these are the exact details Final preparations appear to be complete I have spoken to almost everyone concerned at it looks like a go. We do have a location where we are going to safely do the shoot - Just as variation on the videos though we will have the following in place ; 1-Only one passeneger in the cars doing the runs 2- Each car will have a walkie-talkie for communication to the run controller-so nobody will take a jump. We have 4 walkie talkies with a range of 10 miles each. Each car in the run will be in real time and continuos communication with the run -director. 3- The video will be shot from 2 view points.: One camera at the end of the run to record the finale and another car will serve as the chase car to record the run from start to finish. That way both running cars will be seen on the video 4-there will be no need for a camera man in any car- to keep the weight to a bear minimum 5-We have a professional camera man coming who will take shots of all the cars So gentlemen get ready to start your engines. Hopefully this will be the start of many Just to let you all know though, there will be no: 1-Racing on any us roads 2- No aggressive street driving The location of the exact shoot will be distributed to everyone at the meet up point. But let me assure you that there will be no other cars there. Plenty of space to open up these cars and an ample braking zone The meet up point remains the same Long Island Expressway (L.I.E) Exit 26 and Francis Lewis Boulevard Be there between 8am and 8:15am time . Timing is gonna be crucial on this. Meet concludes at 11am See you all tomorow. So go fill up on gas, wash your cars and check your engine oil and lets get this vidoe shoot on [/quote] I'll give you a ride whenever you want. There are going ot be some modified cars coming for the video shoot Sunday..Z06+ GT2+Modded M5 It should be fun I can understand your reservations given the imminent sale of your 996TT. I have PM'd you Either way I'll post the video next week Cheers JIDE
