Crash at a race, no gore or anything like that, but the Ferrari is engulfed(sp?) in flames in 1second, unbelievble, crazy. Sad. He made it, but with severe burn injuries. http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/news/archive/200310/29/20031029p2a00m0fp019000c.html Here is the video, it might be a repost, sorry in that case. http://www.selsys.demon.co.uk/japancrash.wmv
Repost. I got a video of a guy almost running over a camera man and crashing a F50. Anyone seen it? j/k
Hey, lay off him. I haven't seen either of the Ferrari crashes or the Paris Hilton video...ok maybe I saw the Paris Hilton one, but that's the first I saw the Ferrari crash. THANKS FOR POSTING...again.
Stop hibernating on the "general" forum and head on over to the "race" forum. It's been posted there about 5 to 6 times. The guy in the 355 sued the race officals and won $800,000. Regards, Jon P. Kofod www.flatoutracing.net
What did he sue them for? I'm interested because the marshall didn't seem in a particular rush to help the other guy out of his 911.
My first time seeing it. If you pause it, and then move it forward step by step, it appears that the impact caused the Porsche's engine to explode, which then spread immediately to the Ferrari. Fuel was obviously involved. If you look towards the end, the Ferrari's engine bay doesn't seem to be on fire, just (sadly) the cabin. Anyways, I'm sure all this has been discussed in previous lifes for the thread... --Mike
The court ruling and why he sued can be seen at this old thread: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36899 Regards, Jon
It was due to the race organizers failing to meet contractual obligations regarding the safety of the drivers. The safety crew was insufficient and was too slow in responding. Also, the pace car failed to do its job. After the Porsche spun out and crashed, the pace car slowed down (probably because the driver was gawking in his side mirrors rather than minding the pace) and it caused all of the race cars to bunch up as the hit the brakes and downshifted. This caused the Ferrari driver to spin the car while trying to avoid another car and sent him into the Porsche. It's hard to tell but it sure looks to me like the Porsche driver lost control and spun while verring back and forth in order to warm up his tires. Bad driving on his part, too. The explosion looks like it was caused by fuel leaking from ruptured lines on the Porsche as well as a fuel cell that was ruptured either when the Porsche first crashed or later when the Ferrari struck it. I suppose this is the only way Porsche is going to be able to beat Ferrari at anything..
I don't think your conclusion is correct or even close to being correct. View the video again, after the impact, only object on fire is the Ferrari...not the Porsche. Also, note how badly the Ferrari is burning before you start to speculate. BTW, Porsche engine is at the back, the explosion is at the contact...the front of the Porsche. So your conclusion makes no sense at all.
Porsche = engine in the rear engine in the rear = fuel tank in the front fuel tank in the front = big explosion in this case pretty clear to me.......
