F1 in 2018: Calendar and test dates

"It's obvious, but when you talk to the fans [they say] the cars have got to look great.

"They've almost got to look like derivatives of video games and evolve in a way where the video games take their key from Formula 1, not the other way round."

Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren and Renault have all revealed concept images in recent years of what a futuristic F1 car - with full canopy - could look like.

In 2017, F1 introduced new aerodynamic rules in part to make cars more attractive and aggressive-looking, but Brawn has promised an even more radical step forward for three years' time.

"I think they'll look sensational," he added.

"We're going to have some great-looking cars in the future, that's a really important thing for us."

The look of the cars would certainly help but in the end they have to race well.

    I'm not holding my breath.

If F1 is doomed to die I'd rather it goes out with a bang. If these are the final years of how F1 was known to us....it's like lighting worlds largest firework only for the fuse to fail, and all we get to see is a puff of smoke...

Oh, I see, hyperreality, the solution to all the world's problems, has reached F1 too.

The dumbing down of motor racing -- "Video game" looks

I don't see how a full canopy works when a car crashes and is upside down. The driver is trapped until someone can turn it over. IMO, it will never happen or it will be banned the first time this becomes an issue.

Car in the second photo will come unstuck if Vettel plays at 'dodgems'.
Will these Halo cars require a 'de-mister' ?
Driving out of sunshine into rain, 180mph on full opposite-lock, driver fiddling with de-mister controls. That should liven up F1.

This doesn't alarm me. Ross wants good looking cars and so do F1 fans. He is just as a reference saying the style may should be in the general style of some of the video game concepts. There are some good designers out there doing movies and games. The Tron Legacy vehicles are amazing looking. I don't think Ross is saying form over function. I am still not onboard with the canopies. Especially since the cars are being limited on how fast they can go. The cockpit should remain open.
