Saw this and wanted to share. Yowza. https://columnm.com/maintaining-mclaren-f1/ [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsKDGdcb6BQ[/ame]
It's amazing how little he knows about the car. At least he was honest in the beginning and admitted he knew little about the car...and he also learned inaccuracies along the way during his ownership.
I'm sure prior invoices show multiple McLaren-branded blinker fluid refills and replacement of the modem's flux capacitors every year so it can communicate with McLaren HQ remotely and sending future service reminders.
Absolute rubbish and it is a disgrace that the editors of this film ever put it out. To claim that the McLaren was a race car first and road car second is so blatantly wrong. The McLaren was a road car first and foremost and the factory never wanted to race it. In fact Gordon Murray quite publicly said that the F1 is fundamentally wrong as a race car (despite its amazing track record) In addition the story of the cost to replace tires borders on lunacy. If 'race car' tires need to be balanced on a 'race track' then explain to me how racecars ever go out on new sticker tires! In short don't waste your time with this video.
I have a friend who has an F1. he told me a couple of years ago that a service is required every 8,000 miles and it costs about £25,000. Each tyre is about £2,000 and only available through McLaren. Everything on the car is mega expensive.
