A couple years ago I was running my 355 in the quarter mile and was at 9000 rpm in second and stuffed it back into first gear instead of third. I was rowing the fast, but had never done that before or since. The wheels locked up at a pretty high rate of speed before I realized and got the clutch back in. I flipped it into third and hammered back down to finish the run. It didn't bother the trans at all. It's ran a few thousand miles since and is still smooth as ever. I'm pretty confident now that they are not made of butter and can handle a bit of abuse. My wife took my 348 out and did burn outs until clutch smoke was barreling out the engine bonnet. Oddly the clutch only lasted me a couple hundred more miles. But good burn outs are a part of a fulfilled life.
