I know I'm always afraid of hit-n-run drivers when parking outside.

Anybody know of any products that'll record video (and audio) for all 4 sides from inside the cabin? Or as part of the car?

If such product does not exist, we should create one.

I thought this is why Emil was interviewing for the Ferrari intern?
Last I heard, only Smith & Wesson applied.

    btw: something like http://obsusa.com/products.html?
wonder what technik says about this stuff :)

Clyde, If that's the only thing out there I think we can do much better than OBS (and cheaper). I have a few ideas, perhaps we should collaborate and make something happen. Who knows. Anybody else interested?

If he doesn't already have something in the works, he can probably come up with the item you're describing fairly easy.

    Optimally I visualize the following:

    1. Cabin Keyhole to record driver position and driver window with audio. (in case you run into an ****** cop)
    2. Front chase camera
    3. Rear chase camera
    4. DVD recorder (to save space and battery life)
    5. Data recorder - optional

I know this is available either as a package or piece meal. So Ken if you find anything please let me know and vice versa.

There are a few aftermarket alarm systems that come with pagers which go off if the shock sensor or motion sensor are activated.

I got just bought this kit while I was in Hong Kong.
4 spy cams(tiny), wireless transmitter and receiver, you can watch or record the video. It was cheap like $120 for the whole set, I figured wtf just give it a try.
Not gonna work as in car camera, but for you Hubert it can work, since you can keep put the cam by your window or mount outside, and your receiver can get the data to your computer.

I'm sending it to the factory this week for the autonomous flight upgrade, they say now it can be flown just by watching the monitor from the onboard wireless cam, which also can be plugged into a videocam so everything can be stored to tape or DVD.

I'm thinking of a wide range of solutions from simple devices to sophisticated do-it-all gadets (sorry, can't reveal too much here :) ). It'll be great week-end projects and see what can come out of it. If you think you can contribute in anyway (engineering, computer, financial, electrical...etc) send me an email and we'll go from there.

As the president and CEO of OBS Inc. www.obsusa.com I thought I might stop by to answer your questions and provide additional information to those looking for it on our device...

We like to read our referrer logs to see who is watching our product and you all came up.... So to shed a bit of light on our device here I am.

My only initial thought for you is that our product meets your needs exactly. Your application is mostly what we designed our product to address. Quickly, the reason it meets your needs is:

    1. It is low power so you could have it running in your car for weeks without starting your car.
    2. there are 4 angles to see who was involved in tampering with your vehicle.
    3. Motion activated, impact sensors, alarm inputs, even our dome light will trigger it.
    4. Records BEFORE and AFTER the incident. In the example of a hit and run you get them coming up to the car, hitting it AND driving off.
    5. Records to a SD card to easily retreive the images.
    6. Records IMAGES for a much sharper resolution than video could provide.
    7. Finally, each image and audio file is watermarked and time stamped so you can use it in court etc...

There is nothing else on the market even close to what we offer. I hope I answered some of your thoughts and will keep an eye on these threads to answer any questions you all have...

I hope I was able to help you out.

We will have a demo on our site very soon. The set up works like this:

You change any settings you like in the software on your pc (up to 2 minutes of audio and video recording before a trigger, resolution or compression of the images, number of minutes to record after a trigger, sounds to make or NOT to make when a trigger is sensed and the examples of those) and it saves the config to your SD card.

When you put your SD card back into the car the device upgrades its firmware and configuration to your new settings. Thats it. As we upgrade the firmware you download it and the device is easily upgraded.

THe images are stored in files like a digital camera so it can be played anywhere that reads JPG files. Or our software plays the audio with the images like a movie. Easier to see than to explain...

As I said, we will have an example of this on our board asap.
