F1 racing, that is. I think 1968 was the best season, I love the high-wing cars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3ODmLnDSaw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J3lIuNG-ts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dwezl59pF24&feature=related the turbo years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BplWPco6REg&feature=related
Hands down: Through Driver's Eyes A Japanese narrated film with video clips of Senna doing laps at various times of his career from his Lotus years (I've always liked the beautiful black-and-gold JPS Lotus), McLaren years, and some footage of his final year at Williams. I had the pleasure of taking it to a store, popping it in a VCR and while one of the in-car cameras was showing one of Senna's laps (one of the McLaren ones) I turned around and saw 30 people crowded around me with their mouths open... May be this one (Suzuka, '89): http://vimeo.com/10427952 I've posted the link before, but *never* tire of watching it - Awe inspiring! *That* car wasn't the best, but he wills it onto pole. Enjoy. Cheers, Ian PS - Returning to the OP, it's from "50 years of F1 onboard" - There's some great footage going way back. Highly recommended.
That footage is on this "Driver's Eyes Ayrton Senna". It's a VHS tape by Pony Canyon. I bought the ONLY copy I ever laid eyes on at the old die-cast mini place in Beverly Hills in 95 (same place where I bought my 1/43 BBR 512 TR, 308 GTS, and 355)... Other race footage on the tape is: 87-Monaco 89-Spain -Japan 90-Monaco -Spain -Japan 91-USA (Phoenix) -Brazil -Hungary -Japan 92-South Africa -Hungary 93-Monaco -Japan 94-San Marino Well worth getting and I won't let my copy leave my house...but you're certainly welcome to come see it on the big screen! Absolutely incredible footage and I am very glad I picked it up on sight. Thank you for your video suggestion as well! Frank
Not seen that one Ian fantastic, I know that track like the back of my hand many many hours on some PC game back in the day. Also love that bloke getting through that glass window a amazing trick!. Whiskey: yes brilliant clips.
+1 I love driving on suzuka with some games. Definitely my favourite track after Spa. great links everyone.
Great links thanks and it makes we wanna pullout some of my F1 stash, I have 90% of every season on tape since 1983. tex
I had a friend tape 'the racing scene' when it was on a cable channel about 5 years ago, it's the (basically) home movie of James Garner's F-5000 team from 1969-70, narrated by Garner himself. UNfortunately my VCR ATE it, so it's long gone, and I have not seen the movie since. I tried contacting some folks to see if I could buy a copy, and I was told it was never released because of a distribution disagreement with Garner... If anyone has a copy I'd love to buy it. There is also a DVD out that is also (basically) a home movie of Jim Dunn's travels with his funny car, circa 1969-70-71 as well. It's not 'professionally done', but it has true footage you won't see anywhere else, and is well-worth the $8-12 bucks it costs. I own it. If you ever see the ELF 'Lap of the Gods', only one ELF camera car has ever crashed while turning a lap, Nelson Piquet in Detroit. If you look close you will see two folks wandering towards the crash, which happened exiting turn two. Those two folks would be me and my friend, I was on a photo assignment there.
Very cool story. I have heard 'Lap of the Gods' is absolutely incredible. I will have to look for it on Amazon or somewhere. I believe a lot of the footage is from the top of the car looking down, not in-cockpit, and they have different drivers that are on several different circuits. Am I thinking of the right one? Incredible footage! Lucky man. Frank
Yes you are. The last time I looked for it it was unavailable in the USA, so you might have to look in the UK, and make sure it will work in a USA district DVD player.
