Take a look w/ a magnifying glass when you have the time, at the two or three largest
PLCC chips - one will be the processor which is an Intel 87C196KN (also one of those "custom"
parts that "doesn't exist") - the memory chip should say 87BC6QG.

Jim, the only markings I can read on the 3 largest PLCC chips are :

    - 2 off Intel PLCC68, with same marking "B 58 243 & L 6051041"
    - 1 off Intel PLCC84 with marking "B 58 244 0002 & BI L7423446D & BD 267 952"

I don't know if it tells you something. Anyway it does not really matter as they are not reusable.
Thanks for helping the 5.2 community :)

The B58243 is CJ87BC6QG the OTP EPROM port-expander gizmo I was talking about

Sometimes they are labeled with the Bosch "house number".

The larger chip is the processor - Intel 87C196KN

Jim, I had a 5.2ECU whihc I recently sold. I'm using F355 running gear in a repliac of a P412, but the OE electrionics on the 355 were far too complex. I'll not even be ruunning cats. If you get the data from the Motronic 5.2 I'd be interested. I'm going to use Motec or similar and am happy to trade the map I get created on the rollers/dyno for my car in return.

    Jim,

I can reprogram 87BC6QG (I got protoype Intel 87M12 that can be erased and rewrote).
I also got all datasheets for CC460 and 87M12 and a listing for M5.2 (BMW V12).
If you really wonna reverse engineer the F355 M5.2, I got the tools/hw to modify the EPROM contest in the port expander to read out the 196.
Please PM me for more info.

    cheers

    I know - cc460 is no problem.

I thought you need to read/write modify content of Intel B58243 (87M12) since they are the ones in the early M5.2 DMEs from Ferrari, Porsche and BMW (V12 M73 and 1.9L 4cyl. Z3)?
The B58243 is OTP - I got them as eraesable and rewritable (Intel prototyps).

No, I can read the 87BC6QG (87M12) and write them if I have blanks (which I don't).

There is also code INSIDE the Intel processor. 87C196KN.

If someone has an ecu equipped w/ an 87M12, they are screwed as their chances of getting one of those re-writeable 87M12 "test" units is - well - zero.

All I need is a working Ferrari M5.2 ecu with the 87C196KN processor and the CC460 memory.

Haven't been able to find one for sale (preferably a used one that we KNOW has "worked" in operating an F355)

blanks is no problems too - I got quite a lot, maybe more than BMW/Bosch still has for building their refurbished M5.2 DMEs with the B58243. :)
I know that there is code in the internal ROM of the 87C196KN.
If the DME is equipped with B58243 you can use an adapter in where you use the original port expanders I/Os and SRAM and attach a regular "external" EPROM for the 64KByte content. This way you can read/write and cryptise as needed.

Do you think the iROM content of the Intel processor is the same for cc460 and for 87M12 equipped F355 DMEs?

I don't know - but also it isn't pertinent - since I am going to develop a flashing solution which will only work for those ecus equipped with the CC460.

I've only seen BMW v12's and Porsches w/ the 87M12.

    Firebird,

I am very much interested in your setup / approach for the 87BC6QG... I am currently working on a SC project for my 97 M73-BMW 850CI, I have all the hardware / mechanical part done but got stuck with the engine management portion. I can go with a separate engine management setup or I could try to re-map the M5.2 (BMW V12) but after enough reading it looks like this is not an easy task. Could you please help? My email is [email protected]

    Thanks much
    Vava

I have an extra set of F430 ecu's that I'd be willing to lend out if someone can figure out how to turn off the 2nd O2 sensor after the cat.

I have a tuner that can tune the F430 ecu and has the raw BIN file from my 2007 F430 that we are going to work on this weekend for a tune BUT the Europeans who help supply the software to edit it, didn't give us the location to turn off the secondary O2 sensors.

I'm willing to work a deal out with someone if they want to buy them or lease them, etc...

Does this mean I can try to upload the raw BIN file to this editing software?

Use an extender to pull the 2nd 02 sensor out of the exhaust stream. Once you find the sweet spot the light will not come on and the ECU will be tricked. I have done this a bunch of times and it ALWAYS works.

Works on f430 or other ferraris?
From my research, the f430 is much harder than the 360. I tried the extender and it didn't work. It was about 3.5" long.

I contacted this place and they do say, Yes it will read and write the fuel and ignition maps to the 5.2 both F1 and manual trans ECU

Not a bad price and if it works the game starts:)

Does anybody have a .bin of a motronic 2.7 f355? I had one at one point but lost it and want to play around with some editing. If not I'll have to pull one of the chips out of my car at some point, but realistically that won't happen until winter...

    I do.

It will take me a bit of time to get it, the laptop that it is on is dying.
I will try to retrieve it this weekend.
