Fantastic car and beautiful work, which has been a true joy to follow on this thread. Many thanks. Gabriel
I love the Vignale script. I see they were on the car in the first photo in this thread. I also see the gearshift knob that was with the car was a black one and now there is the white one? Did the car have a 5 speed when new? Just wondering not criticizing. Also is the passenger window switch located on the dash? I don't see it on the driver door. Ciao, FGM
The car has its original 4-speed gearbox. When I purchased the car it had a black shift knob which I assumed was replaced at a later date. I replaced it with the ivory knob which is what I normally see with the 4-speed gearbox. The black knob is more attractive with the Trident in the top but I find the ivory knob feels better when shifting. The passenger window switch is on the passenger door panel. Ivan
Excellent job on the car, and thank you for sharing the process. It will be great for future reference, both for this car, and for us re-doing our own. Many Thanks, RF.
Thanks to all that have left positive messages, it is much appreciated! The car was invited to the Amelia Island Concours this March. Those attending the show please come by and say hello. I should be easy to spot as it will probably be the only white 3500GT Vignale spyder prototype at the show Long term I am not sure what I will be doing with this car. Unfortunately it is not the type of car I can simply hop in and drive 10 hours. Not that the car could not do the drive but if something bad was to happen it would be a major undertaking to get it fixed. Something as simple as a stone breaking the glass would be a nightmare. For now it is a great "show and tell" car for those that come and visit me. Plus it serves as inspiration as I look at Vignale spyder #2779 and all the work that car needs. Ivan
This is one of my favorite photos of #504. It was taken on December 1960 when the car was one year old. The owner is Don Cooper at his home in Los Angeles. Everything about this photo says 1960's. Even his shoes match the color of the car! Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wonderful pic. Cool baby. You know that guy has a stack of Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, and Coltrane records in his house.
Very cool photo Ivan! Are the tires "Firestone"? They are tall enough and fit really well. I actually like them better than the later Cinturato. ~Ciao and best!
Yes, those are Firestones. According to build records, the car left the factory with Pirellis. My guess is that the first owner, Joe Lubin, put on the Firestones as he was a racer and perhaps he did not care for the Pirellis. I have an even more interesting photo which unfortunately I cannot post as I promised the owner that I would not distribute it. The photo was taken before the car was completed. It shows the car completely assembled with Alfieri at the wheel. What is amazing is that the car is in bare metal. In other words, they were test driving a fully assembled car without even putting a coat of primer to protect the metal! It had different headlights, an ugly chrome strip across the hood, steel wheels (without hubcaps), and several other trim differences. This explains all the holes found during restoration that had been welded at the factory. Initially I though they had been mistakes, now I know they were design changes. Ivan
Hi, saw that car for sale on mobile.de site. (aug. 2012) after contacting seller ( in U.K.) he told me over the phone the car is in texas. Being a broker and entitled to sell this maserati prototype, he faxed a soft copy of a Texas certificate of title. Presumably all of it is fake... , I am vey cautious. Any advice welcome
Well ... you should be very cautious as the car is in my garage and not in Texas Please post the fake title. How much was he asking for the car? Ivan
This seat design is absolutely stunning! But seem to be too expensive to get as a standard specification.
Ivan brought the car to Atlanta's Italian Car Day yesterday, where it was understandably the hit of the show, and won Best in Show as voted on by the other car owners. Truly a spectacular automobile! Beautiful! Did you drive the car to the show, Ivan? How much do you dare to use such a car, in that condition?
This is the only car I am afraid of driving where there is much traffic. The show was approximately 40 miles from my house over some very busy roads in the Atlanta area. I played it safe and took the car on a trailer. Last Saturday was a beautiful day in Atlanta with perfect weather to show the Vignale spyder amongst 80 other Italian cars. This show produces some of the nicest car posters ... this was the poster from this year's event Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login
These are the posters from the two prior years. The 2010 poster with the Alfa is my favorite. Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
