I just love how everyone comes in for a pit stop during the accident and Jacques just keeps chugging along. The only one to not follow the crowd. I saw his thinking right away.....one stop strategy. Then seeing him (finally) get a reward for going his own way was very satisfying for me. 6th place. Way to go! Wes
Probably the most independent thinker on the grid.....could be good, could be counter-productive. Personally, I like it.
Catching a wild tail-out moment in Eau Rouge , playing defense on Button and Ralf etc...At moments he was driving a very heavy C24. Putting in a 1:54 on totally ruined intermediates to hold 6th place was incredible. JV did the 7th best time. Good 1 stop strategy. Obviously the safety car helped but we'll take it. Now it's 9 points Villeneuve, 8 points Massa. I can't wait to see how he will do next year with BMW.
It really bugs me to even compare him to Massa. The guy won the CART Championship and the Indy 500 in 1995, he was second in the WC in 96 and won it the next year (Regardless of Car Superiority). I don't know what his issue has been the last year or so, but it really is annoying to compare him to that little prick Massa. I thought Massa was lucky that DC didn't choke the crap out of him when flipped him the bird.
I wish that Ferrari would have brought Villeneuve in for a seat. Bet ya something would have sprung from "Spiritual Powers of Life Past & Present". Personally, I'd like to see him in (next year's) good car - - KICKING A$$!!
Not to mention capturing the pole at his very first F1 race! Yeah it was a superior car, but he even beat Hill, who knew the car and the track. JV should have won also, 'cept for the pesky oil leak...
Yes Villeneuve is no sheep - he is an A$$. What is wrong with everyone? This guy is as passe as a leisure suit... He gets lucky and makes it to 6th and all of a sudden he is the come back kid - please - he hasn't done anything noteworthy in the last 5 years other than getting a ton of $$$ for bad mouthing the team and the car... Amazing thing is that his manager is at it again saying that BMW is not putting the effort to become a top team next year... One suggestion to BMW, get rid of the dead wood - AKA JV - get someone that can win today - not 10 years ago... BTW, Massa had him beat (yet again) until the team made the wrong tire choice, and Ralf (another over paid under performer) almost beat at the line!
JV sideways at Eau Rouge. http://rapidshare.de/files/5054371/F1_2005_R16_Belgium_Villeneuve_Slide.avi.html
Three things: JV splashed his way to 6th place ... I'm sorry not going to get excited about that, it was a race of lotteries. Heck even MW managed a 4th . Regarding Massa at Ferrari. If Massa was not from Brazil he would never have got that drive and I honestly cannot believe the choice ... but I will wait and see, but I believe he will never be a champion. Regarding JV at Ferrari ... come on, put the whacky pipe down Pete
Didn't Massa get the job because Jean Todt's son is his manager? Anywhoo, I guess I'm happy for JV to get his little day in the rain, but after his drives this year, and YET ANOTHER sour relationship with a team, there is little doubt that he should retire. That vid clip of him getting loose through Eau Rouge is impressive, less impressive is that he has a Jordan all over him. I'm sure he'd be quite keen to correct that slide as he knows what happens when you lose it in ER after writing off one of the early BAR cars through there. (followed by Zonta who did the exact same thing a few laps later)
I'd like him to win at Montreal too... in a Ferrari... that is the stuff of fairytales. I don't care what people say about Villeneuve. I watched him capture the DC in Indy and F1... he'll always be a hero to me. I blame the bad women for his lack of form for the last few years T.
