Can someone provide input on this 308? The VIN is ZFFLA13B000048809. Can't tell if its an '84 or '85.

that's an '83 vin number or a really early 84. The QV register list similar series of numbers for both 83 and 84.

it seems its a euro left hand drive, but like you said late 83 or early 84 another way to tell is look in the door jam

That's a 1983 European VIN. You can tell it's European because the eight letter is a B (on US cars, the eighth letter is an A; on Swiss cars, the eighth letter is an S; on UK RHD cars, the eighth letter is a C, et cetera). A great Website to check out VIN breakdowns and the subsequent meanings thereof is red-headed.com. Go there, click on Articles, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Decoding the VIN" - everything you ever wanted to know about VINs is there, courtesy of our very own Edvar van Daalen.

If the VIN you provided were for a US car, the eighth letter would be an A and the following four zeros would instead be a number, a letter and then two zeros. For example, car right after yours is also a 308 GTS QV, 48811, but it's a US car. So its VIN is: ZFFMA13A0D0048811.

European VINs don't denote a year because Europe doesn't have "model years" like we have here in the US. In the US, a car - foreign or domestic - can be manufactured in 2007, but made for 2008, with a 2008 VIN. In Europe, a car that's built within a calendar year is the model year for that car - even in December.

It's got to be a mid-year built '83. My Euro GTS QV's s/n is about 500 lower & FNA sent me a fax saying it was built in Oct. '82. So in Europe it would be considered an '82 & so do I . However, MA in their wisdom insists it's an '83.

The door plates can't be trusted as most were added when the car was imported into the US. My door sticker says it's was imported in '84. A lot of the door stickers say '84' for Euros because the US year code was O & it'e easy to miss lead/missinterpret a 0(zero) as an O(oh). A couple of times I've had to have a tech enter an 'oh' instead of a 'zero' in order to get past some machine's VIN validity check. In other cases, someone has to over-ride the checks. A minor PITA compared to the fun I've had with the car!

Well 12603 is a Daytona and the VIN didn't exist before 1980, so that's definitely not it. It must be the former, 72603. That VIN's prefix is indicative of a GTS Turbo. Do you have pictures of the VIN and/or the car...?
