Hello, I need to find someone to work on our '58 Vespa 400. I'm tempted to take the car to Cherner in Potomac, as they see a steady diet of older cars, but am curious if anyone can recommend a shop in Potomac/Rockville/Gaithersburg/Bethesda to work on this eccentric, 2 cyl 2 stroke car.

    Thanks, Will

Crown Auto in old town Gaithersburg specializes in Fiats and Alfas. They're a hole in the wall though...are you looking for a waiting room with Faberge Eggs and Cuban Cohibas or a mechanic that can work on it?

FYI -- Cherner of Potomac will cease to exist in less than two weeks -- they are going out of business.

really?? why is that? I thought they had a pretty niche business selling exotic/classic cars in potomac.

Was yours the one up at the FCA event at Summit Point on sunday? Very cool car mate, thought it looks like it would hurt to sit in. Bit cramped in there.

How about a motorcycle shop? I am sure they are capable.

    Thanks for all the replies.

FMoW, who also work on our Porsche, did a fantastic job getting the Vespa up and running - and bringing it to the Summit Point track event just for grins. Thanks Richard, Fernando, Josh and the usual suspects.

Lash: Easy choice - give me the Faberge eggs and Cohibas.

Brian: Thanks, we love the car. Not fair to complain about the cramped cockpit, though: what about the complete lack of safety features? The absence of comforts such as a/c, heat, radio, adjustable seats, etc? The 18hp "engine" that makes even a small hill a challenge: do you try to approach it "flat out" in 3rd and let momentum work its magic, or drop down to 2nd and climb at 5mph? ;)

Peter: I'll be sorry to see Cherner go, always good window shopping. We bought a car from them, our '93 C2 cab. They seemed to know more about the US cars than the German and Italian makes.

Rafienva: That's actually a very good idea, didn't think of that.
