Rob de La Rive Box wrote a small book about his live a a car broker. The book was written in Dutch so for a small audience.. I've read the book at least 4 times, lovely..
That Rob Box book also exists in German language. Title is "Darf es ein Ferrari sein?", published 1993 by Autovision Editors in Hamburg, Germany. Marcel Massini
Did it not exist in English language as 'Ferraris I have Known'? Really keen to get a copy...have got Ben Horton on the lookout. Would massively support some sort of work from Ed Niles... Currently sat in the garden enjoying a late British summer re-reading Paul Schouwenburg's 'Ferrari Fever'. Personally, I love these recollections of individuals from an era that will soon leave us. This truly is a gold mine.I am guessing the second car is a CanAm machine,Got any more from the same period. Thanks much!! tongascrew
The photos are incredible. I'm just getting my feet into this world, building a 330 GT 2+2. Great to see these vintage photos. I am mating a body shell to a frame, so I could use some documentation that would be helpful. Does anyone here have resources to blueprints or other build data on the 330 GT's? Any collision shop specifications that I can use as baselines? Thanks, and happy to be part of this forum. Dave [email protected]
Nice to hear good things about this book. There are so many good volumes to get into. Right now I am cataloging my collection and will definitely look forward to reading this one.tongascrew
I will definitely buy one. How about this idea. Write the book, publish it yourself and have it printed and put a nice price on it and sell it. Guess what, no copyright expenses for the pictures. It's the collection of the memories that count. Two books come to mind, "By Brooks Too Broad For Leaping" by Denise McCluggage and "Cars I Could've,Should've,Kept by Jackson Brooks. Both are a great read. Paperback editions and medium size format. Give it some thought. tongascrew
Look, guys, I appreciate the kind remarks, but I have long since transferred my files to Marcel. Without those files I'd be lost. Furthermore, at 90 I'm getting weak in the brain and body. When the files left me, I made a decision that it ain't gonna happen. Anyway, most of the best tales have already been told, here and in the FCA SW region magazine, and earlier in the FOC mag.
Honestly, that backdrop makes is a lot easier to write a book. You can hire a writer to creatively piece together all the fragments from FCA and FOC publications and then give the writer additional commentary to fill out the stories and link them together. Most of us haven't serially read the entire library of FCA SW or FOC publications, so it will be new to us. It probably wouldn't take a lot of time or effort to put together because it sounds like a substantial portion is already there as a base.
So it should be a very easy job. All you have to do is collect all these various articles and put them in one place, a book! Any photos would help and maybe to keep it from being too disjoint, some of the articles may need a paragraph or two of introduction. And as I said before, I will buy two copies.
Yes, Lowell, I know. But those articles were written in "legalese": Just the facts and none of the detail/embellishment that enhance a tale. To do a proper job would require extensive re-writing, and I don't have it in me.
