Most here probaly know about the road racing track that used to exist in Carpentersville, but this was just shared and if you remember it or not there's some great color footage shot in 8mm at an event there. I figured some here would enjoy seeing this..
Does anyone here know any of the cars? Or even better, was anyone on here driving any of them? The track only operated from 1958-68, from the cars in the video and it being color I'd guess this was filmed in early to mid 60's
About 9 minutes in till the end you'll see a few action shots of Ferrari 250s.. as well as a Scarab and loads of Porsche speedsters.. There's everything from bug eye sprites to a couple Testa Rossas :)
    Enjoy!

I had no idea that place existed! Very cool video. Thanks for sharing. What lead to this tracks demise and what currently stands at this location? I saw lots of Porsche 356’s but no 911’s. Is it therefore reasonable to assume that this video dates to pre-911 introduction in 1964?

If you search youtube there's lots of videos. They raced open wheel, sports cars, nascar style big production cars, pretty much everything. If I understand the story basically with safety rules and competition from other tracks it was hard to keep it going. It was the project/dream of a real estate guy in Carpentersville.. it operated about 10 years, you can walk the track anytime. It's still visible on Google earth. There's a couple groups that keep fighting to preserve what's left of it, and they are always fighting the people who want it to go totally back to nature. It sat unused mostly from 1968 till the forestry people bought it in 2000..

Thanks for posting this. Augie Pabst in the Scarab? Old Yeller on his heels.
John W from Continental likely raced there, perhaps he'll chime in with some stories.
If you haven't done so visit and walk the track, a good portion remains. It was a narrow fast and a dangerous course.
Dick Doane had lots of super duper "back door" Corvettes at this track. Lots more history here too.
Another nearby is Lyndale farms near Pewaukee, WI. Most of this short lived track still exists as residential streets. How's that for a status address?
