Aim for 60 kph - That's only 37.2 mph and should be far more easily attainable. Then, when people ask you, all you say is: "She'll hit 60 in under 5.7 seconds!" No lies told, and not your fault if they assume you meant 60 mph
All joking aside, you can knock a few tenths off of you leave it in second and just pass the red line a bit. I remember reading that in either R&T or C&D back in Aug 83 when they both did a test on the then new QV. that same month.

I respond, "The speedometer says 180 miles per hour!" "WOW!" is the typical rejoinder.
And the NCT tires lasted compared to today's tires. The original NCT spare for my 85 308, 37 years old, may be rock hard, but no dry rot, no cracks in the tread. The3 years old Goodyear F1 tires that came on my 355 had cracks in the tread grooves. Same with the Goodyear Egale F1 tires that came on my Cayman. Cracks in the tread grooves when I git the car. Tires were 4 year sold. What's happened to tire technology?
Well usually the magazines use a pro drag racer for those test and no one cares if the car needs to go back on a tow truck if they get a good number.
Also some makes have been known to supply cars to magazines that are not in the strictest sense stock. One Italian manufacturer that starts with L was famous for it. I know someone at FNA who drove the 550 used for the endurance speed record. He told me that car ran awfully hard for a stock 550. I had dinner with Ryan Falconer at Bonneville a number of years ago. He told us a lot of stories of when Detroit ran cars there for records and the massive cheating that went on. The officials just ignored it when a car manufacturer was involved.
Remember the famous Ferrari 250GTO vs. Pontiac GTO road test in Car and Driver? GM laundered a lot of heavy breathing through Royal Pontiac….
I read that issue on a long ride home from Colorado to Birmingham. Spring break 1984. So I am guessing that is the Apr 84 issue. I think Gurney was the driver and on the cover.
More like 1964 unless you’re thinking of a reprint or rematch. The cover was a beautifully realized painting, a piece of cover art. It was also a bit misleading as it was not a head-to-head matchup. This was in the golden years of CandD. Image Unavailable, Please Login Ever since, one of my dream cars has been a ‘64 Pontiac GTO “post coupe” with 348 Tri-power and four speed.
