I took these photos at a Concours at Pinehurst in about 1988. Eddie Smith, Lexington, NC, owned 10709 since 1968, when he bought it new. (incidentally, a second NART Spyder was owned by Norman Silver in High Point, NC at the same time, less than 20 miles apart).

I met Eddie when we had side-by-side pit places at Rockingham Motor Speedway for the track event prior to the Concours. I had my Dino at the track and Concours and my two 330 GTC's at the Concours.
Eddie towed the NART Spyder to Pinehurst on an open trailer. He told me the story of how his car came to be a metallic maroon color instead of the bright red it came with.
Eddie said he really didn't like the bright red so he went to a local Buick dealer to look at other paint colors on the cars on the lot. He found this beautiful maroon color and had it repainted.
He also polished the paint off of the brass radiator and liked it that way. You can see that in the photos.
Eddie loved the car and enjoyed showing the car to others. I speculate he got pressure from some folks to return the car to its original color. The Concours folks weren't excited about the bare brass radiator or the maroon paint. ( the paint looked like the Titian Red 1970 Buick color, but I don't know when Eddie first painted the car, so that is a guess). Sadly, I Don't have my Ferraris anymore.

This is awesome, thank you for sharing. I had always heard about this car but never saw it around until it went to RM a few years ago. I'm not familiar with the Norman Silver car, but just found a few things online about it. Do you know how long he had it? Here is Eddie's car at RM a few years ago and a couple images I found on eBay from Chinetti back in the day that I think may be the same car. They had a couple yellow NART spiders in that collection of slides too, but they didn't look like the paler yellow

I seem to have the original color wrong. According to several sources the car 10709 was Azzurro Metallizzato (Metallic Blue). It was also described as silver blue. I will check my Ferrari recording book to see what other confirmation I have.

10709 was born Azzurro Metallizzato 106-A-32 Salchi.
    Later repainted several times.

This I would think shows not Eddie Smith's car but 09437 in 1968 or thereafter once it had been repainted dark red by request of the "Thomas Crown affair" film producers, it was of course tested by Road & Track in that livery.
If so with 06885 we have the two most important 275's in the same period photo: very special to see:)!

What year did Harley acquire the car? He and I were classmates at university and I’m pretty sure he was driving a Ferrari around New Orleans in the late ‘60s. But it was the ‘60s so I could be wrong.;)

I don't want to steal thunder from the OP, but I believe I saved the other shots from those old slides and will try to find them. I believe it also includes the mid Cluxton car and the 365P in addition to a few NART Spiders

Harley hosted me a year ago in his offices when I was in Arizona to drive 5575GT and the two 450S. What a tremendous occasion that was!
His offices are full of racing and war memorabilia and he is one of the all time story tellers, I told him a few stories as well. He had some interesting cars of course.
We spoke of going out to lunch around 11h30am but....we were still there after 2PM when it was time for me to head to my next meeting:)!

I just found quite a few pictures I took in the late summer of 97 at his warehouse. They aren’t very good quality because it was a disposable camera, but definitely interesting to look at.

I just showed my friend a couple ss from this thread and he lost his mind about Norman Silver owning a NART Spider. He went to Wesleyan in the late 80's/early 90's and apparently Norman was a donor and around a fair amount, but he had no clue he was into cars.
