i am getting ready to pull the trigger on a 330 2+2, series 2 car. very nice overall condition. i am scrambling to find market prices. i was under the impression such a car would be about 110-130k. assuming a very nice condition car without any notable service needs and with books/tool/jack. thanks for the help; i'm generally a 70/80s buyer, but can't resist the opp to drive an enzo-era car. :)

I don't follow the 2+2 cars that carefully, but for that kind of money, I would think it would be a very, very nice car. I'm sure you'll get a PPI and I'd also check with the gang at Tom Yang's site, www.tomyang.net, where there are a number of 330 GT owners and experts. For that car, and the GTC/4, it's too bad that parts and repairs don't mirror the car's market value. s

Pricewise, you're pretty much in the ballpark.

    John: I have a 330 GTC--but I looked at 10 cars before I bought mine.

Make sure you get a PPI--it is well worth spending $1,000 or so BEFORE
you spend 100K on a car. Sounds simple--but you would be amazed at how many people
I met who did not do this !!

My mechanic told me "When you find the right car, you will know it". When you drive
the car, your own instincts are good as well. If something bothers you about
the car---do not buy it. There will be others.

Better to wait then get the wrong car. If you pay too much for a good car, the time
will take care of that. But if you buy the wrong car, you will never forget that one !!

+ 1 on PPI keeping in mind 40+ year old cars are not going to br perfect. I have had 2 330GT's and they are good cars

thank you all for the replies/PMs. i think i will do a PPI (usually skip them!) but i don't expect perfection. not many cars are perfect!

Like most of the members of the list, I've bought a number of older cars over the years and I've had it go every which way one can imagine. I bought two spectacular cars ('65 GTO convertible, '66 'Vette coupe) sight unseen by anyone: "better to be lucky than good".

On the other hand, I've bought two 'Vettes with PPIs that I didn't see personally...both were less than advertised and I messed up on those. When I bought my 330 GTC I went to Canada to see the car as I had a feeling it was better than the PPI described. Bingo, I loved the car, tho' it was not perfect. That was 7 years ago and I still own the car and it's been a great driver: never show quality.

Recently I bought my Daytona, PPI by probably the most renowned Ferrari mechanic in America. After I saw the car, I noted a radiator problem that he missed! So, there's no perfect system, but I really think you gotta see the car, trust your instincts and do the best you can on a PPI.

    Best of luck. s

I hope you don't mine me asking, but is it S/N: 11235? You can PM me if you wish not to post...

I saw that car back in 1997 at a classic car auction here in Vancouver. Originally from Ottawa, Ontario. It was in very nice shape, but not totally perfect. Silver over Black. I believe it sold for $61K.

No, it's car #8995, first owner was a guy from Switzerland, then the famous collector and co-founder of the FCA, Larry Nicklin, tho' I didn't know that at the time of purchase. Was originally burgundy over orangey-peach leather, but Nicklin changed all of that to black/black. Regards, s

yep, documented by heritage papers from the factory and proven up with cool early photos of the car, sitting in the Indiana snow! The photos also show #8995 with a radio, which Nicklin tossed, as he much preferred the exhaust notes. Still with a radio delete plate as of this AM. s

Does anyone know if the radio delete plate was the same in a 330GTC? If so does anyone have one they want to get rid of?
    Thanks,
    Terry W. Phillips

Just a reminder: the radio delete plate, the picture of which I posted, was put on the car by Larry Nicklin, and may or may not have been correct for the GTC. s

The ones that I have seen were different. Black lettering on a aluminium-looking plate (it might be plastic, I'm not sure). Unfortunately I do not have a very clear picture.

I had an Alfa Romeo Spyder years ago, I think it was a 1977 model, that had what looks like the same Pinninfarina plate where the radio would go. Might be worth looking that route for a cheaper place to find the part. At least they are not Fiat parts!
