can someone help please? I need to figure out the paint code to tell painter for the original "Ferrari Red" used on 60's era Ferrari's. Our painters books don't go this far back and I have no clue what to tell him please please someone have a suggestion Thanx Chelle
Chelle - Well I can help - I do have the paint chip books from that era. What I can tell you, though, is that Rossa Corsa, what we think of as Ferrari red today, was not yet invented in the 60s (assuming this is for your GTO replica?). The closest color was Rosso Chiaro (bright red) but there was also Rosso Sir Ivor (very very close to Rosso Chiaro with the slightest pink tint), Rosso Dino (orangey), Rosso Rubino (a little darker than chiaro), Rosso Cordoba (darker still) and many others. I can get look up these codes for you, but maybe the best bet would be to use a Rossa Corsa code from teh eighties or however far back they do go. Also, I can tell you from experience that these old codes are worthless, in that the code will not produce an accurate colour - for my dino (Blu Chiaro) and my 365BB (Blu Dino) it was necessary to work off the chips themselves and not the codes. Does this help or make it worse? Let me know, I am impressed with what you are doing and happy to help any way I can. Alex
Alex, Thank you so much for your help and nice words I'll show Haley this tonight and we will talk over which one to choose. I'll get back to you tonight. This helps a LOT For the lambo we spent a couple hours in the paint mixing place looking through chips, but for this we are trying to make the look original (and the performance modern). Chelle
Patience... you've come this far... http://jb330gt.com/Colors.htm Rest assured, several F-Chatter's have Keith Bluemel's book, Original Ferrari V12 1965-73, and will assist you with the model/era's color of choice. Some #'s on site - wait for confirmation from the site experts ___ FORZA article reprint... http://www.lynxmotors.co.uk/f1204.htm "With fresh Rosso Rubino (code 106 R7) paint and a new tan leather interior, the Lusso looks magnificent"
No problem - let me know and I can get you the paint codes when I am home this weekend - better yet I can also take photos of the chips if you wish, and once you select one if you want you can send me a small peice of the car and I can have it shot to match the chip, then send it back to you with the formula. I would normally just send you the chip book, but it appears that I may have the only one left in existence (carrozzeria scagiellietti paint chip book from this era) and I hestitate to put something that is utterly irreplaceable in the mail. I hope you understand. If you want, go ahead and email me directly at alexander_t_leventhal AT yahoo DOT com and we can discuss this further. Really impressed by what you girls are doing! Alex
The paint codes are meaningless in this day and age unless you have the original mix guides. But just the same, here is the code for the original Eurolac color of the era, Rosso Chiaro 20 R 190
Thanx everyone!!, I'll be sending out a couple PM's I thought the color was supposed to be Rossa Corsa, but then confusion set in because one site I looked at said most of the originals were Rosso Cina .. I need to buy more books
