Im going to let my 1960 vintage, Rolex 1675 GMT, gilt dial, pointed crown guard watch go to a new home. The condensed history of the early 1675s is this The Rolex 6542 was the first dual time zone watch produced by Rolex but it was not SCOC certified. In late 1959 Rolex began the design of their new GMT model, the 1675, which had the 1565 movement with 18,000A/h. The very first 1675s were produced with only COC certification. The 1675 received SCOC certification sometime in early in 1960. The earliest known example with SCOC is #503xxx. However, as is typical with Rolex (and early Ferrari), serial #504056 only had COC certification so determining SCOC status by serial number is a lesson in futility. One thing is sure, there were very few SCOC 1675s produced in the year 1960 and it is thought that most of those were made by the designers rather than on the factory floor. My watch is #517xxx. The case back is stamped 4th quarter of 1960. It was last serviced by ABC Watchwerks in Los Angeles in May of 2014. The case is in near mint condition. Dial and insert condition and remarks are listed below. Overall it is a good, clean, example of a very rare piece. I am very picky when it comes to vintage pieces so in order to be totally upfront from an honesty perspective I like to point out a couple of things that might slip by someone not 100% familiar with these very early examples. The jubilee bracelet is an aftermarket piece. The Pepsi insert shows some fade and has a few scratches and marks. There is some very minor paint flake along the very edge of the dial between 4 and 6. I havent owned it all 56 years so I dont know if the dial has ever been touched up in any other area. If it was it sure was a good job. I cant see the flake unless I use a magnifying glass or loupe. All dial lume markers are intact and do show some signs of puffing. I cant prove it, but I think the hour and minute hand have been replaced at some point. The GMT hand is the original small arrow hand with the lume intact. The 1560/5 movement bridge has been replaced during a service with the more current 1570/5 bridge which would be considered vintage correct. Say it ain't so. This is my favorite watch on the Fchat watch thread. Just wish I could afford it. Price seems extremely reasonable to me. Beautiful! Good luck.
Not too worry...it'll take someone who wants a collector piece in order for me not to own it. I don't have to sell it. To quote Ron Popeel; "Just 3 EASY payments..."
