I've been trying for a few years now to get my hands on a pair of 80's sunglasses, with not much luck. Anyone out there have any hints they can throw my way? The pair I'm trying to find are by L.A. Eyeworks and the frames are called Botta. They're the same pair Tom Cruise wore in Rainman.

I wear an L.A. Eyeworks frame also, that's Italian made.

Did you call the retail store?

When I first inquired, my model had been 'mothballed" prior to liquidation, but they then called me when they became available on final sale and built me four pairs.

Somewhere, I had the saleswoman's name......it may come to me, if I think about it long enough...Lana? Laura?
The receipt may well be in the box with mine....

FWIW - Ray-Ban has been doing some reissues of shades along the lines of L.A. Eyeworks Botta design - found some interesting pairs at a Sunglass Hut last week - but - couldn't recall specific thread . . .

In my case they are Ray Ban Wayfarer Clubmasters, which are no longer made in the large size that fits me. I then have tinted prescription lenses installed.

Although it's not the look that TexasKid is going for, check out Randolph Engineering aviators.
They look good on almost anyone.

Thanks for this link! I have just found a source for interesting and unique sunglasses. I will be ordering a few "unique" pairs for the summer. Sunglasses are one of the few pieces of jewelry men can wear, and in a bathing suite, one of the only ones, so I like to keep a good inventory.

There's a store in the Cosmopolitan Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas called RetroSpecs that sells vintage sunglasses. You might want to give them a call.

I saw a video about that company in the last month or so, all these similar machines, making all these different designer shades. Shades are an item that is tough to justify the premium on. I don't wear them often but the pair I do wear cost around $15 from a supermarket, block the UV and look ok, so why the premium on others.

Anyways I have a 40+ year old pair of Rayban aviator's that belonged to my father. I don't wear them but keep them. For the 1980's, I remember Gargoyles brand, they were worn by the Terminator in 1984.

Nice sunglasses. This style was very popular in the 80's and really suites some face shapes well.

Nice to see them making a comeback!

I have several pairs of RetroSpecs, they are awesome. All glasses are restored and reconditioned. The quality of the restoration is amazing. Great service and they will fit prescriptions.

I have a pair of Bausch and Lomb RayBan Aviators from the early 40's. they are super cool!

What are vintage sunglasses worth? I keep seeing a guy post ads for Eastern States Eyewear Police sunglasses from the 80s/90s on Craigslist. He's asking $5k!
