He didn't hit the brakes it looked like and certainly didn't have a good line.

Scary though coming up head on to the tires... is it better to take it like that or to try to snap the car into a spin to absorb more momentum in less grassy space?

Actually, I think the brakes might have gone out. You can see as he approaches the turn (don't know how high speed the turn is) that he frantically goes for a downshift, probably to slow the car at the last minute. I don't think it did very much. That is pretty scary to watch!

downshift seemed way too late to be intentional so maybe error involved but cant tell unless know what type of corner was approaching. 2 bad regardless

This is an old video. Supposedly there was a catastrophic brake failure. I believe that I heard that a rotor shattered.

Heavy Viper + STOPTECH big brake kit and RBF 600 fluid = braking goodness. Otherwise, you'd better ready the anchor...

Wow, that was a nasty crash.

If you thought that was an ugly viper crash check out last years Gumball rally when Torquenstein wrecked his 700hp Viper. That had to be the worse crash I've ever seen on a rally. Luckily both survived.

    Video here: http://vids.torquenstein.net/Tork-crash.MPG

    Thanks for both links.

I am downloading the second currently, but on the first one, I would have peed in my pants if I were in that car and something like that happened.

Thank goodness for video games to train me.

If you look carefully at the SRT crash, as they were walking away you will notice that they did do that and more...

What amazed me was that they weren't wearing helmets! This was almost a Darwin Award for everyone in this race for not wearing head gear.

I know there is one video out there of a viper going over a cliff. The driver braked, tried to turn, brakes locked up, and the video shows the car disappearing.

That video is crazy. The part that strikes me as funny though is when the guy is explaining how the accident happened.

Oh he was going pretty fast...the road was pretty bump...then he hit these two bumps and it shot the back end up in the air....there was nothing he could do. Everyone agrees, yeah he had no control.

Weird cause there were plenty of cars driving perfectly fine across those bumps. Maybe he could have slowed down ;)
