First time I went to VIR, 1967, the tree was there and it was "old" then. As a friend said today, imagine what it has seen and the stories it could tell. My reply was "imaging the people it could put in jail" (G). And as the late '60s and early 70s were a smoky haze for me, I could certainly be one (many a wonderful night spent in the company of that tree).

oh no, one of the Top 5 iconic race track land marks in my eyes. when I went there with CCR in 2011 that is the first place I wanted to take a picture.

How did you like the roller coaster down to Hog Pen?

Connie's bar, huh. I missed that one. Although I was so tired by the end of the day...

I liked going into Roller Coaster as that's where I passed Franco. :D Hog Pen etc wasn't favorite part of track except I think you can gain a bunch of time there, kinda sucker corners the overly ambitious will lose a bunch of time.

I love the esses, anything 5th gear that takes a fine touch, precision, and BIG BALLS or terrible consequences is what got me excited. We have similar situation Texas World Speedway where you needed the same qualities to take turn 1 off the oval without lifting and then get it gathered before turn 2 or you go off a huge drop. that's another area you can always gain time over your average competitors.

When I had the X5M at VIR recently, nothing like entering the up hill esses at 125 in an SUV and feeling it leave the pavement for a brief moment at the first right hander.

    Texas!
Horsepower makes a difference. In an MX-5 car, you try to get the fastest possible exit out of T6, shift into 4th, and take the esses flat out. The only problem is the rear gets lighter and lighter with every swing so when you pop out at T9, you swear that you're doing a crossed-up jump like a MX bike. And of course you need to gather everything in for T10 because it is a long way down on either side. Good fun.

But I never felt comfortable in the roller coaster. I would either have my entry be too fast or too slow. But hey there's always next time.

well, I spent 2 hours on driving sim with pro Jason Hart in Dallas before. I had to do that for all the CCR tracks because I was new to them and we didn't have much practice time. I still left a bunch of time on the track.
