"You have to go 20 miles an hour over the speed limit to get that one; but under a new set of rules there are now a whole host of violations considered “reckless driving” that subject errant Virginia drivers to fines of $1,050 to $3,000 — plus court costs, if you fight and lose. The money will be spent on maintaining roads and bridges, safety improvements and closing a $500 million gap that emerged in last year’s transportation budget."

Make sure you take Virginia off your list of places to visit until they get rid of these laws.

This was discussed last month and it looks like the hike in fines only applies to VA residents, not just anyone crossing their turf. However, in VA, it is illegal to have a radar detector.

I believe Will is spot on, the courts will be backed up, and while the budget might appear to increase, it will actually decrease and the courts will end up eating up any gains in the budget. It just doesn't equal out that way.

How about being more effecient instead of fining everyone and double taxing them on the roads they already pay for through gas taxes?

Following this trend, I can only logically conclude we should raise taxes to 100% so we can pay off our national debt.

What is funny is that the purpose behind these laws speak little to nothing about safety, road casualties, and the like. They are only doing this for the money, and that is weak.

They will just spend it faster and increase the debt more. Entitlements.

It's amazing how fast CA dived from a budget surplus into the tank bigtime.

Nah, the gov't doesn't think that way. Instead of being more efficient and/or cutting back on things not needed, they just find ways to take more money from citizens and continue to blow it all away.
