    Hi Guys,

Our family will be going to Italy in June for the first time. Our trip will take us close to the Maranello/Modena area and I wanted to plan a side trip to visit the F-Museum/Factory. Is there enough to see and do in the area to stay a night or two or should we just do a day trip? Does the factory have tours?

We are trying to finalize our reservations, etc. this week so any info or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,
    RacerFlash

The Galleria Ferrari (museum) has enough to keep you busy for several hours; the shopping for Ferrari junk/trinkets is within walking distance, and slightly overwhelming. Be sure to visit "WARM UP", just caddy-corner to the Galleria. They have tons of stuff.

Food, unless you have reservations at Montana is simply "o.k." Eating at the Cavallino will be remembered for all the helmets, memorabilia, and possibly the other patrons, but probably not the food.

    Maranello is an industrial town.

There is a worthwhile day trip to the location - if you try 'search' you will find out whether you can get a factory tour - and what else there is to do in the area

I had planned to go in June, but saw some 60th Anniversary stuff going on that made me think twicw about June dates - you need to be an owner to get a factory tour. Request forms are available through dealers.

There is tons to do in Maranello, if you like Ferraris. The museum Galleria Ferrari, all the Ferrari shops, including the official one across the street from the factory, Fiorano test track - if you're lucky they may be testing F1 cars the day you're there, and of course the factory, for which I understand you need an invitation to visit. As someone else already mentioned, Ristorante Montana http://www.ristorantemontana.it/ is well worth a visit, not just for the Ferrari stuff but also for the food, but make sure you reserve in advance. If they're booked there is also Il Cavallino or Ristorante William which is apparently Montezemolo's favourite restaurant. If you're looking for somewhere to stay Planet Hotel www.planethotel.org is right across the street from the factory and if you get a room on the Factory side you have a great view of it. There's probably enough to do in Maranello to keep you busy for one full day (and evening) but not much more. Definitely worth the trip though. Buon viaggio!

IN 2002 I stayed in the area for two days. Besides the factory, the Galleria and the test track at Fiorano there are the four great stores to buy anything Ferrari or car related including and amazing array of models and books. I stayed in a very charming hilside town about 10 minutes away from the factory called "Castelvetro di Modena" the hotel is Locanda del [email protected], 39-059-708711. It is a small family run inn in a great tower town. You can also play golf at the nearby golf club of Bologna. Also worth a trip is Modena and Bologna, both cullinary capitals of the world as well as offering history and architecture. I would say two nights would be well spent.

Also, don't forget there are many other factories around there. When I went in 2004 we also went to the Lamborghini factory and museum which turned out to be pretty cool. I don't know if you can get Lamborghini factory tours but there are windows in the museum that look out onto the assembly line.

I could have spent many days in Modena, it is very entertaining to just sit on the curb and watch the new Ferraris drive by as they test them.

Just wanted to thank everyone for responding. I received many great ideas and info. I found out that the 60th anniversary festivities are at the end of June and we will be there in early June. Maybe just as well as I'm sure it will be crazy!

    Thanks again,
    Bob

I went to Maranello last summer I really really enjoyed. I can still picture it perfectly in my head. I stayed in bologna and got up early on morning took a train to modena and a cab to maranello. I only spent a day there but I felt I was able to see everything. It's funny Maranello looked exactly how I always picturted it.
