My wife and I are visiting Charlotte and surrounding area's for the first time in January. Can anyone recomend places to stay or to visit while down their? We are thinking of reloctating down their in the next year or so and would like to see all that there is to offer in the Charlotte and surrounding area's. We've heard so many nice things about Huntersville and Cornelius and would like to get some feed back from people living in the area. What to do, where to live, what to see, etc. Thanks for any help. Gary.

Peter, sounds like it's about time for you to have an "open house" for the CAFE group???? :) We love Ferraris, Ducatis, etc. We'll tolerate a Porsche or two. I hope all is well.

OK, we don't have any Ferrari's...yet....but we are somewhat involved with CAFE...

    Where are you coming from??

Feel free to stop by our place Exclusive Motors (www.exclusive-motors.com) and we can help you out with the whats and wheres of Charlotte.

Where to live (if you choose to move) all depends on what you want. Charlotte and surrounding communities has everything: lake living, city life, country club, or "just far enough out of town to be away, just close enough to do everything", like where I live on Mt. Island Lake.

What to see...wow, that depends on what you like. One of the things we like about Charlotte (been here 4 years, moved from NJ) is that it is centrally located to everything. Asheville is only 2 hours, Charleston - 3 hours, Atlanta - 4 hours, Myrtle Beach - 3 hours or so....

Where to stay....I would recommend near downtown because it's easy to get to anywhere.

Any help you need, give me a call 704.309.5499.

    Gary,
Great place to consider, my family and I just moved here about a year and half ago. We love it started off in Huntersville, now in Mooresville on Lake Norman. My shop Auto Corsa is in Cornelius, what a great little town, and Davidson , wow it doesn't get any more down home than that. CAFE is a great group of guys lots of diversity and fellowship. Come on by and visit , if I can help with this area would be more than happy to.

Hi, my name is Michelle I'm Garys wife. We are interested in areas that have a small town feel to it and still be only half hour or so from Charlotte. Huntersville sounds & looks nice and the homes are beautiful from what we see with on-line realitors but they all look so close together with no backyards. Also, I'm wondering from all the things we've read, if the area is growing so fast, that it'll loose the small town feel.
What is Cornelius & Davidson like? Does one of them have a large college there?

We're going to make a trip there in Jan. & are wondering if it'd be best to stay downtown Charlotte or just outside of it since we've been reading some things on "Tripadvisor" about some of the crime downtown at night.

We currently live about an hour or so north of Detroit in a nice small town, with 2 1/2 acres(since we have 3 dogs). We like the area & are used to driving 30 to 60 mins. to a major city. We're between Lansing & Flint and it takes about 20 mins. either way.

Another nice get-away would be in south charlotte. the Ballantyne resort is pretty nice, there is a spa, pool, tennis and golf, and it is a great area to live. about 20 minutes south of downtown (uptown as they call it here). Cornelius and lake Norman are about 20 minutes north of uptown,,,RT

I know exactly where you are coming from, Davidson has a college in it, very exclusive and private. The area surrounding Davidson is wonderful. But, if you are looking for country feel with acreage, I would consider Mooresville, Troutman area. They are wonderful and only 20-30 minutes from downtown Charlotte. Not growing too fast up there but the North Charlotte and Huntersville area is growing quickly. They just built a huge mall at exit 18 off of I77 and most of Huntersville is exit 23-25 Anything north of that you should find exactly what you are looking for.

Does anyone have info about Statesville, what it's like, how far from Charlotte, etc.
Mooresville does sound nice, we'll have to make a stop through there.
Wade, do you & your wife live by the lake? And do you have any land?

    Thanx

We are one block off the lake, still have lake view but not on the water. We do not have any land. Wish we did but we took what we could afford at the time. Statesville is nice a bit to country for me, it is about 35 miles from Charlotte. From Huntersville to Statesville, you can be comfortable living like city folk or you can be so secluded you will wonder if people existed at all, and a good mix of everything in between. Good idea to check out all possiblities. If you want a tour guide my wife and I would enjoy showing you what we have seen in the short time we have been here.

You guys are great. Thanks for all the info. Looking forward to meeting some of you when we start making our trips down there. Im sure this will be the first of many trips for us and it's nice to no their are good people like your self's that are willing to show us around and even invite us over to your home's. And yes to FerraiPete I would love to see your car's and bike's. My wife and I both ride Harley's and look fowrard to moving to a nicer climate to enjoy our toys more. Here in Michigan it seems like winter last for 6 months, grey skys and cold tempratures. Michigan is a beautiful state when the sun is out. But that dosen't happen to often. We live in the country now and love it. Resturant's and shopping are close buy and we still have the peace and quite of the country. Kinda the best of both worlds. We would like to find a home with a couple of acre's so our dogs can run. When we get down their we'll look for house's with a little land and not to far out in the stick's. Once again, thanks for all the info. Ive been a member of the FerraiChat.com for some time, and have read alot of your guy's threads. It seems That CAFE is a great bunch of guys who love ferrari's and cars in general. I Have a 1985 308 gtsi that I just love. Always wanted one, and bought one 4 years ago and couldn't be happier. I gave my wife my 1987 Porsche 944Turbo when I bought my Ferrari. I don't think I could go back to a Porsche now. Porsche is a great car but it's not the same as a Ferrari. Look forward to talking to guy's again.

If you want more specific information about Statesville let me know and I will do what I can to help. I currently live in Statesville. I have to agree that Statesville is a lot less metropolitan than the lake areas further south. However, if you want acreage at a reasonable price Statesville or Salisbury is where you might want to start. The best thing about Statesville is we can be in downtown Charlotte in 45 minutes, downtown Winston-Salem in 30 minutes, or downtown Hickory in 25 minutes. Yes we are a little further from the coast, but if you like cars and motorcycles, the mountain roads are where you are going to want to be. Today the temperature was nearly 60 degrees F. Although I did not get the Ferrari out, my sons did. The Porsche stayed in the garage all day.

What ever you decide to do we will all welcome you to the area. Let me know if you want to know more about the areas north of CLT.

Sorry Daniel. But if you want to chastise me on a public forum that is alright with me. Believe me, if we had actually followed through with the dinner plans, Ravelle and I would not have been sitting at that intersection and been rear ended. Luckily we were not in the Ferrari, but rather the Suburban. A diabetic 65 year old man driving a Cadillac Sedan DeVille apparently forgot to take his insulin. He slammed into the back of us doing at least 40 mph. And not a skid mark to be seen.

We promise to make it up to you next week.

Robert and Adam did get the Ferrari out for a quick spin today.

Merry Christmas to you, Cameron, and Luka.

Okay, I emailed you, anyone hurt?

Hmmm, maybe his car had ABS? You know that system is designed not to lock the tires.

If you'd been in the Ferrari, you could have put up the force field protector and your car would have been insulated from danger!

Doggone, this is a popular place, even Bob Saville is on here.

Wow....a Vette guy on this board? How did they let you in Jody?

Well Gary & Michelle, it should be obvious by now that the answer to "where should we look" is all relative. If you want acreage, you'll have to head out of town a bit, but that's not a bad thing. Heck, we live 15 minutes outside of Uptown an there are horse farms just up the road from us less than a mile away.

Hey Bob! I told them I owned a FIAT and they let me right in.

Gary, if you're coming to the area, I'd recommend also looking in Iredell county so as to avoid the out of control Mecklenburg property taxes. I live in Troutman, an area just between Mooresville & Statesville, and there's plenty of surrounding open land. If you want to live on the lake, there's a lot of that, too, albeit expensive.

Wow Rob, hope everyone is ok, when did this happen. My wife and two kids were exiting I40 at exit 151 Tuesday evening about 6 and a 68 year old woman watching the flashing lights from another accident rear ended my wife totaled the car,she said she wasn't paying attention and did not even apply the brakes until the noise of the impact. My wife has a cracked rib where she broke the steering wheel, and lots of soreness, kids and wife were all carried away in an ambulance, they are doing better now but wow what a scare. must be the week for rearendings.

Our accident occured Friday about 4 pm and certainly was not as severe as your experience. The driver that hit us was in the ambulance for about 45 minutes while they stabilized his blood sugar but he was not taken to the hospital. My wife and I as well as the gentleman we hit were all fine. Glad to hear no one was seriously injured in your wife's incident, but I am sure she will be sore for a while.

Of course some of my track Ho friends would point out the ABS issue. Naturally, I was not thinking clearly when I made that comment. It must have been the accident that clouded my thinking. I would post a picture if I were smart enough to retrieve it from my phone.

Hope the rest of your Holiday is a safe one.

We lived in Salisbury from 1989 through most of 1990 and it is a nice quiet place to live with lots of Old South history. Like many of the other small NC communities they roll the sidewalks up around 9 pm. However, the town has grown significantly since I lived there so it might be more like 10 pm. The worst part about Salisbury at this point is all of the road construction on Interstate 85. But this is only scheduled to be a problem for another year or two. In what direction was the place your wife found. There are advantages to each. If you go West you are closer to Lake Norman and Statesville (where I live). If you go North, you are closer to Winston-Salem and Greensboro, where you will have to look out for JRR. If you go South you get Charlotte (ugh, the traffic) and all the CAFE crowd. East you are closer to the coast, but not much else. What else do you want to know?

Eclipse185-- is there a nice downtown there in Statesville? How many restaurants & stores would you say there are? And does the city do activites for like Christmas or Halloween? I'm REALLY interested in Statesville & am looking forward to coming there, I also like Mooresville and want to see what thats like also.
I saw on one website that there's a historic district with alot of big old houses, I love old houses, but Gary said we're buying a newer house this time!
We have a beautiful old house about 2800 sq ft on 2 1/2 acres that was built in 1890. We love it, but it does come with quite a few problems when you start restoring some areas.

I definately appreciate any info you could give me on Statesville.

    Thanks

The downtown is just okay. There are three above average restaurants downtown. And several other average restaurants around town. I would consider Statesville's downtown as acceptable for limited shopping so plan to visit one of the larger communities within a one hour drive of downtown for any serious shopping.

I too love older homes and there are some beautiful ones here in Statesville. Older homes take substantially more love and care which certainly cuts into Ferrari time.

There are community sponsored events that are fun, but who needs those events when you own a Ferrari and you live so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

When do you plan on visiting? If you would like for me to send you a new comer's packet which may have some information not available on line I would be happy to do so. Just let me know.
