Planning a long weekend trip with my wife and a friend to visit the Dallas area to visit another friend. Couple of questions for you locals!

We've never been before and are very excited. Our trip is planned for April 2-5. I've read that the Dallas area Cars & Coffee is the first Saturday of the month so we are are definitely going to attend that. Is there any other cool automotive related stuff we should check out while we are there? Or even can't miss Dallas stuff?

    Thanks for the insight!

I lived in Mauldin for many years and now live east of Dallas. I'm not sure if you're one for big cities, but Dallas ain't no Greenville! You can do the 'typical' Texas stuff like a rodeo or take in the sights of the Big D from the observation deck of Reunion Tower. To me, the Cars and Coffee event in Dallas is mildly organized chaos and isn't that enjoyable - especially for a spouse. PM me if you'd like to meet up while you're in town and talk cars and how much we miss the Upstate.

There is an extremely active FCA Chapter in the DFW area. Have not noticed anything on the calendar for that weekend yet but there could be multiple organized gatherings.

Last month's cars & coffee had 2 La Ferraris.

Sadly, the number one tourist spot in Dallas is the 6th floor muesum in downtown Dallas. Depending upon your age range, night life in downtown Dallas is fairly light, you may be better off hitting downtown Fort Worth on the weekend. Downtown Dallas is primarily a work place, and activities at night and weekends is fairly boring. More atcivities just North of downtown along the McKinney avenue and American Airlines center areas. The Dallas Ferrari dealer is North of Dallas in Plano close to the cars and coffee location.

+1 for Fort Worth for nightlife, especially if you want the quintessential Texas experience. Stockyards in FW are fun. Sundance Square in FW as well. One place in Downtown Dallas worth stopping by for eats, and I know this may sound crazy, is Fuel City Tacos. Yep, gas station tacos! Great tacos and also get yourself some elotes, corn in a cup, which is niblet corn in a Styrofoam cup with some secret sauce. No idea what's in it, but it's tasty! Typically, the line for elotes is much shorter than for tacos, so grab yourself some to munch on while waiting to order tacos. Have a great time in Dallas....T

There is a hidden gem in Fort Worth called 4 day weekend. It is a live improv comedy show. They keep the content clean and fun for all ages. The Fort Worth water gardens are enjoyable. Depending on your interests there is always something to do.

Great advice here! I always stop at Fuel City Tacos if I'm in the area. Always. Get the barbacoa. Trust me, just do it.

Cars and Coffee can be overwhelming, but is a must-attend event for car guys. Get there by 8:00, it starts thinning out around 9:00.

If the weather is nice, and it should be, you might have dinner at The Rustic in Uptown. It's owned by Pat Green, a local country music hero. Get there EARLY, 5:30 or 6:00 and sit outside. They always have live music on the weekends, and it's a great laid back atmosphere. If you don't get there early, you'll be stuck inside. Still good, but not the same.

The Rustic - Kitchen . Backyard . Bar . Music

The best restaurant in the metroplex is Lonesome Dove in the Ft. Worth Stockyards. It's amazing. Start your meal with the elk sausage sliders. Hard to beat the Stockyards for food and fun as a visitor. We do an overnight trip to Ft. Worth a few times a year because we like it so much.

I own a few bars in the Dallas area. I'd be more than happy to direct you to some upscale lounges/bars and restaurants in the buzzing Uptown/Downtown area. Feel free to shoot me a PM.
