There is probably not much going on with regard to cars, but I wanted to see if I could get some ideas from the locals on New Year's Eve venues. I will be in Bedford from Dec 20 to January 5th, not far from my old college ! I will also be visiting the in-laws in Wils Point.
We are dumping the kids with the parents, so....is Deep Ellum the place to be? A nice party, but not a disco, a dinner at the symphony, or...? I can google the stuff, but if someone knows something tried and true, reply here, or send a PM.

Bedford and Wills Point are not where you want to be! Deep Ellum is not what it used to be and has been struggling for years. Pick up an Observer when you are here and it will have every bar's agenda. Depends on the crowd you want and the vibe etc. Deep Ellum, Uptown, Knox/Henderson, McKinney Ave, Greenville Ave, Addison, Downtown......

I'm gettin old with kids so I am out of the loop myself!!!!

I agree...check out Nikita. One of my favorite places to be on Sat & Sun nights.

    Thanks !
    I found this:

    http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/Dallas/Nikita.asp

I think it would be perfect for an early dinner and drinks.

Once I am done there, where can I find a smallish club with some live music? Perhaps within a short drive/walk of McKinney Ave? I think the trolley still runs.... I am bringing my wife's sisters, too.

Nikita is good, but gets packed as it is small so I'd make reservations for dinner if you want to eat. I was there in Feb 03 and snapped this pic of Mini Me Vern Troyer.

I don't know of live music on McKinney Ave. Hard Rock Cafe sometimes has some cool bands playing even though that is mainstream and bigger than you prob want.

McKinney Ave. sounds great! I'd check out Republic, its right off of McKinney Ave. about a couple blocks South of Nikita. I'm sure you'll be able to find a great place hang out at. BTW...try out the Red Star Burger at Nikita. You'll fall in love!!!! :D

Just need some live music. It looks like the Gypsy Tea Room is hosting the Burden Brothers on Dec. 31st. Are they any good? I like a few of the tracks on the site...(click on "Shadow", pretty catchy).
    http://www.theburdenbrothers.com/music.html
It says the distance is only 2 miles from the Republic to Elm St (Tea Room).

Unless I am hallucinating, I think I remember listening to Eddie Brickell and the New Bohemians at the Tea Room, back before she was famous and married Paul Simon.

Thanks again, anyone is welcome to pop in on the agenda above. I will be the Slavic looking guy with 3 California blondes !!!!!
    :)
