Aloha F-Chat members, I would like to offer my help to any member visiting the islands. I am not all knowing but I do own several tour companies, a discount activity seller and have a vast knowledge base to pull from. I can save you money on activities, advise you on how to save money, inform you on how to make the most of your vacation and answer just about any random question you have about vacationing in Hawai'i. Ask right here or shoot me a PM. Steve
I'll be on Maui next week. Have most of it planned out, but some questions, as it's been a few years since I'm there. We're planning a day trip to Lanai - we decided against renting a 4x4 as we didn't think there was enough to see on the island to keep my kids (15 and 12 years old) interested enough. Thoughts? Also, the family enjoys eating - whether it's road food or high cuisine, we're all in. Any recommendations (we are planning the Mill House at the Maui Tropical Plantation and Mama's Fish House)? Thanks!
Were you at the one in Hana or Kihei? Kihei location is right by our hotel, definitely worth checking out - thanks!
I have a long 72 hour layover in HNL, 25-28 October. I was wondering if you know of a diving company I could get a couple of dives in on the 26th? Also would any of you Hawaii guys like to meet up for a lunch or dinner?
The Paia Fish Market in Kihei is fairly new, if it's close to your hotel...you won't want grub from anywhere else. Simply the best.
I can vouch for Steve. Steve is a class act and I'm proud to say that I've known him for almost 2 years now. He's definitely a person you can trust!
Ate there yesterday - it was excellent. Picked up some ahi poke from Foodland today, that was good too!
Wow! Cool beans - I'm typing this from Honolulu, in my hotel (Pagoda Hotel, 1525 Rycroft) yet again here on business!! For the umpteenth time Mahalo nui loa Dave Jedi
We are headed to Lanikai for Christmas and New Years. I might be sending you a PM once I know when everyone will be there. What is your best recommendation for a Luau? Anyone out there that can come and cater/entertain at the house versus going to one of the tour locations? The house is on the beach.
We are renting a compound in Kihei on the beach that will sleep our family group of 20, the third weekend in June, 2017. We will have 6 grandkids between 8 and 3 at that point, so looking for some activities for them, besides the beach, shopping. I have not done the Hana Highway, but know that it is 1.5+ hours of constant turns, which may have carsick issues for some of the kids. Is there another way out of Hana that is less curvy ? I know we are 30 minutes south of Lahina, and all the stuff around there, but have also heard it will be nice not fighting the traffic between it and Kapalua. I will need help getting those 20, arriving in 3-4 groups, from the airport to the rental, as well as renting a van or two for excursions during the week. May want to do some tours for the older kids (2 - 14 year olds) and adults, and maybe some boating. Open to suggestions. Are there restaurant and bar options in Kihei ? What else is close by ?
Hana is tough, especially with younger ones. My wife and I did it on our honeymoon when we were a lot younger and it was a grind, even for us. Haleakala might be a better option - you go up early and see the sun rise, but prepare for a good part of the day coming back down and re-acclimating. Both of my kids really enjoyed our stay in October - plenty of activities like snorkeling, canoeing, etc. If you are foodies, there are some great places in (and not far from) Kihei - Paia Fish Market, Monkeypod Kitchen, etc. The Mill House and Mama's Fish House are must do's, but be prepared to pay for it!
