See as much of Tuscany as you can. Go in to Florence and you can spend days there. The old standbys are worth it; the Duomo, Michelangelo's David at Accademia Gallery, the Uffizi Gallery (The Medici family used it as the seat of administrative offices and as state archives). A great place on earth, and one of the best things of all is that Jacques Chirac is not president of Italy.

If you like shopping, do so in Milano. Italian brands, Prada, Gucci, D&G, etc. are much cheaper over there, including other European brands like Hermes, LV, etc. I was so impressed with the shoes at Berluti.

Then you stop by at the airport to get back the tax, which refund you for about 20% (sorry I forgot exact %-age)

Watching soccer game is fun, too. It's quite different from the US. I got excited when the whole stadium singing & fireworks went on.

Visiting cathedral, museum, opera house was Italian experience, & so does watching paintings, eating their food, meeting people at night clubs.

    You'll have great time!

    What he said

Florence is my second favorite place in the world

You can even go to the Pharmacutica Santa Maria Novella , Hannibal Lechters perfumery. Found it by accident not too far from the train station.

Take your time, avoid big cities (Firenze, Venezia, Roma, Milano) like the plague (actually, you should go there to see what everyone else sees and snap a few pics...). The most beautiful places are often unsuspected and as simple as a little trattoria lost among the Tuscan rolling hills. I wouldn't miss the Alps (Dolomiti, Lago di Garda and Como...).
My dream vacation? A nice car, and 4 weeks to drive around northern Italy, where-ever I wish, at the speed I wish to!
