I'm moving to Munich, Germany for this summer. I'm thinking about taking a week vacation and flying into Venice, renting a car, and driving around Itlay. I want to visit Florenece and Rome, but is Maranello worth it? Can you tour the Ferrari facilities while visiting Maranello? Any information on definate locations I should check out?

    Thanks
    Paul

I think the 'Things to do in Maranello' discussion has been had on this forum a number of times already. However, to answer your question as to whether it's worth going to Maranello, the answer is yes.

yes, i would stop in maranello for a day. if you are not a ferrari owner, you will find it very difficult to get into the factory. there are other great sights to see. also consider some of the other marques in the area like lambourghini, maserati, pagani, ducati. don't forget milan.

Maranello is definitely worth a visit, as is the whole surrounding area. Towns such as Imola are close, and numerous smaller towns in the countryside are pleasant to explore. Larger towns such as Soave, and Verona which are on the road from Venice to Maranello are wonderful, as is Parma. Of course, the car culture is everywhere, but the food in this part of italy is considered to be just about the best in Italy. Be forewarned, though, that this is the industrial heart of Italy, and the main roads, including the super highways (autostrada) can often be packed with heavy traffic and lots of trucks. The people are also wonderful.

As far as Milan goes, not worth a visit in my opinion. My experiences there have not been good. What it supposedly offers in terms of shopping, food, sightseeing is overshadowed and undermined by the snotty, unhelpful adn flat out rude nature of a lot of the people. Ther are better places in Italy. We have traveled in Italy extensively for many years and my wife still maintains a family home there. Milan is the only place to which I have no reason or desire to return. The best way to see Milan is in the rear view mirror of your car as you drive away.

When I visited in 2003, I had an arrangement for a tour of the factory confirmed by FNA. I went through my dealer to obtain this. When I arrived at the factory, my name was already on the list.

Thank You for the responses. Sorry, I now realize there are many other threads on this topic. I do not own a Ferrari currently so, I guess it is impossible to visit the factory from what I have read. However, do any of the other exotic car manufactuers have tours for non-owners. Are there any other Ferrari places I can get into? Any good suggestions on car rentals (economy)?

When we went, I just registered our VIN on the owners.ferrari.com site and set up the whole tour emailing back and forth with that site.

we did the same thing on line via the owner's website for the "Paid" Owner's Tour and for the F1 Test Day at Fiorano but for the "Free" Owner's tour - FOH did the paperwork for us and we got confirmation of our selected date via FNA.

    Hello,
I'm currerntly signing up for the factory tour for our trip this June.
    Here are the steps;

    1. head over to an authorzed dealer and fill out Tour request form. Request dates.

    2. (if applicable) Ferrari North America (866.551.2828)
(email: [email protected] ) may need a copy of your title or registration to confirm ownership. Thats how they keep their "ownership database" updated. And if your at least the second owner.

Advice: if your at least the second have Dealer make 2 copies of regi so that if Ferrari NA needs one they contact dealer for it (happened to me).

    Good Luck. John.

Ah cool! I lived in Munich for many years and still have a 355 GTS parked over there. I get over there about once a year to do assorted things both in Munich and usually driver over to the factory.

If you want some tips as an American in Munich either PM me or post here. There are also 3-4 ppl here in Ferrarichat that live in Munich too. They hang out usually in the Euro thread

10 Fchatters and their cars from the European section will be at the culmination of the 60th anniversary celebrations at Fiorano track on June 23 & 24 . We then spend a week in an agroturismo outside of San Gimignano in Tuscany. See the Tuscany 2007 thread - although we're circulating most of the organisational stuff by e-mail and not on the board.

I just got back from Maranello 3 weeks ago. It is worth the trip. If you do not own a Ferrari don't worry as the Lambo factory is as friendly as I have ever been too. They will take you inside and I got to go in the work cells in the production area and the guide had a worker take a piece of scrap leather and emboss it with their logo as a unique souveneir.

Galleria Ferrari is a Nice museaum right near the factory. The best Muuseum I went to was the Panini Maerati collection about 15 minutes from the Ferrari Facotry. Very imporessive private collection.

You can eat at Cavillino Restaurante where Enzo ate. I did and it was a good experience but the food was not all that great.

If you are a real car enthusiast it is worthe the extra drive. I did not find the food or surroundings all that imporessive though. We stayed in Bologna and I thought it was a dump.
