Hello Well I am staying at ND for spring break so I thought I would come up to Chicago for a day or two. I was wondering first of all if there are any events next week I could go to and second of all what dealerships I should visit / what places I am likely to spot nice cars... places close to downtown are best Thanks! Andrew
Andrew, Tell us what you are into? But from the hip... Lake Forest and Continental are Chicagoland's Ferrari dealers. Either one you will be enjoying but keep in mind your a kid off the street. They are also quite a hike from the city. If you make it out to the burbs, go to Woodfield to buy your parents gifts but that may be a bit far. You will spot some nice cars cruising up and down Michigan Ave weather permitting, ( which is Chicago's premier shopping district)... Check you calendar to see if you can make it to the go-karting event. PM FOC guru Tifosi12 for details or if you can offer any bit of help... Bring your girlfriend or convince a girl you like who's stuck in South Bend with you to visit the Shedd Aquarium to see the dolphins and weather permitting, take a trip on the Ferris wheel at Navy Pier with either a water taxi or river boat ride. If you are into techy stuff, go to the Museum of Science and Industry. Grab a beer at the Billy Goat tavern and load up on some mad pasta or steak at Harry Carays or save some dough and go to Gibsons or the Chicago Chop House. If all you want to do is see high end cars, go to a dealer but be very nice and realize you are just there to look and not make yourself at home. RocketBoy
All sound good to me, I'll look into them some more, and thanks for the restaurant suggestions also! I was mainly asking about cars, my list of normal places to see is pretty much made and included the Aquarium. Also one of my friends lives in South Bend so he's been to Chicago a lot and he can probably help with regular person sight-seeing. Definitely, I always ask before I take pictures, and never touch. Hopefully if I'm good enough they'll invite me to sit in one ... that's what happened with a Viper once So here are dealerships I know of ... Lake Forest, Continental, Fox Valley Motorcars, Loeber Motors, and Lamborghini Chicago. Are there any places that have just every cool car imaginable and don't specialize in a certain company? I would especially like to see a Carrera GT .... or an F50 but my hopes aren't very high for seeing an F50. Thanks again
Closest dream collection where you would see all sorts of amazing cars would be some owner's garage... Though Fox Valley has a diverse range yet Im not too sure how their PR is now that there most respected Sales guru left to pursue his own things. Last time I saw a CGT was at Chicagoland's leading Benz dealer, Motorwerks. One of the most amazing cars I have ever seen and they simply could not unload it. I was offered to buy the car at an insane discount but am so low on cash fellow local Fchatters are offering me free meals. I think the Porsche Exchange in Highland Park has a silver one in stock, on the way, or on a consignment deal. Perhaps you check there? Loeber has an SLR but so does LFSC. LFSC is amazing, the staff I dealt with very kind and informative. Like many dealers, all the fun cars are in the service area but for obvious reasons there is no instance why a stranger belongs back there no matter how much the respect the brand and would be as well behaved as can be. Everyone says that Luxury Motors looks amazing and they have an Enzo, SA, CGT listed. I was there as a long while ago and don't remember anything about them apart from a classy showroom. Perhaps someone else in the Chicago section can offer a been there, dealt with them opinion. If 308s are your thing and you make it to the go-kart bit, Im sure one of the many friendly and very open FOC dudes will let you get a snap shot in their car. I've seen them do that in the past. Take care and have a fun time in Chi-town. RocketBoy
You might want to go see a shrink and see if they can do anything about your inability to talk about exotic car dealerships without somehow mentioning the service department thing or trying to tell someone that they don't really belong there. By the way, Fox Valley's "PR" is great, as it always has been.
Mike, He wants sights of the high end cars and they are usually in the back where the don't let the general public roam. He might get lucky but if not at least he knows why. I spent more time in the shop than I did in the showroom or asking to see supercars because I was there for a reason, not to gawk or intrude. I know my mechanic's hobbies and his wife's name more so than I do what the sales people look like or what sculptures are in the showroom. And while there I saw many young people, adults too, turned away from the same place I was just at because they were off the street and just wanted some pics and a genuine and kind look around. I doubt Webby will have much pull at an exotic car dealer when he says he is in town from ND and he sees an Enzo pull into a service bay. Maybe he'll get lucky, but it is doubtful. RocketBoy
I'm sure he'll thank you later for giving him the "tip". Nobody cares. Who cares, and what business is it of yours anyway?
Goto Bentley Gold Coast and just wonder around for an hour.....See if they will kick you out. Just walk in with a briefcase w/handcuff tied to it....Watch them squirm. Sit down with a rep and say "I want you to find me a Zonda", and open the case and pull out a sandwich.... I think I've thought about this to much.
Agreed If those guys are anything like the greasy scumbags at Luxury Motors in Orland Park, it would definitely have them squirming p.s. Hey Mike, heard about the new gig... congrats . Stay in touch and hope to see you out at some track days this season. I'm aiming to run a couple sport bike events this year as well... let me know if you're interested!
Hey, my B-Day is 11 days later than both of you, and I am 14 years older than Mike....Man, I wish I was 20 again.... The age of Aquarius!....
