My wife and I are going to Paris the second week of November and I was looking for suggestions of non-postcard things to do or places to go. Looking forward to the trip.

    Hi,

What should I start with.... ?
First : how long do you stay in Paris ?
Second : what kind of "things" do you want to do ? More executive places oriented, or more unsual places.... ?
Third : where do you stay in Paris ?

    MG

    Hi -
First: well, we will be in Paris for just 5 days :( (Since we came back to America my wife doesn't get much holiday time...)
Second: we aren't "executive places" types - also we will probably get the touristy stuff out of the way pretty quickly so then are interested in finding interesting places. I am also thinking that we will hire a car for a day to drive out of Paris - when we lived in Australia we would think nothing of a 500k "drive in the country" to give you an idea.
Third: we are staying at the Travellers at 25 Avenue des Champs-Elysees - not been there before but it is a reciprocal club with the Royal Automobile Club in Sydney where I am a member.

Gordon - thanks for your contact details and I have sent you a PM.

We are quite looking forward to our visit - just want to get a sense of the city rather than deal with tourist stuff.

    Cheers
    Kevin

We will be there from Nov. 6 to Nov. 14. We are staying at K+K Chayre St. George, which looks like it's just West of the Latin district. We like to discover unusual things and since we like to walk we will try to do most of our sightseeing by foot. Obviously we'll want to see the standard places like the Tower and the Louvre, etc., but it would be great to see some out-of-the-way places and meet some people.

First of all I'ld like to wish you all a nice trip. Paris is great!

Be careful stating you will do everything on foot! Paris isn't exactly small and some places aren't exactly close to each other... Besides, the city has a very good metro/underground network and lot's of taxis avaiable...

Some standard places you maybe already know but that are also worth a visit... Montmartre area and Sacre Coeur, Père Lachaisse cimètiere...

Furthermore I'ld like to contribute to this thread with two small restaurants I like to visit while I'm in Paris...

    Restaurant Le-Bar-à-Huîtres
    Poissons et Fruits de mer*-*Métro*:*Bastille
Ouverture: De 12h00 à 2h00 du matin. Fermeture: OTLJ
    33 bd Beaumarchais

    Restaurant PIZZA RENATO
    ITALIAN SPECIALITIES
    Place de la République
    41, bd du temple

All within reason, of course! Thank you for the restaurants.

Kevin, I will definitely post my findings. We're really excited, especially since we haven't been on a vacation in almost 3 years, and my wife has never been to Europe.
