I've got a laptop with Vista on it. It isn't too old. Starting about three days ago I can be in the middle of something and I get a blue screen and then it tries to restart. Or it just tries to restart without the blue screen. I say tries to restart b/c if it does it, or if I try to turn it on the lights come on but nothing comes on the screen. After turning it on and off about 5 times it will finally start up.

I'm going to bring it to a computer shop, not a big box, to have it looked at.

Any of you guys know if this has been happening with Vista? I don't want to blame it on vista but I've never had this problem on my other machines.

I hang on a LOT of Tech sites, I read about nothing but problems with Vista, I have never read about so many problems with an OS since.... maybe when NT came out.....

It just shut down again and I finally got it back on. lol

I guess its time to pull out my 10 year old laptop with XP and start using it. I never thought I would be wishing to use my 550 celeron again.

simple...install XP. It is a great OS with years of revisions and much needed bulletproofing.

re-Install Vista about 5 years from now after everyone else has done the beta testing for you!

with software, the newest is RARELY the best!

Never experienced that in my Vista laptop. The only problem that I have encountered so far is that some sites woon't load.

That is what I will most likely do. Toshiba wants me to send it to them but I need it here to do a bunch of work for next week. There is a local shop I'm going to take it to and see if they can do something with it quickly. I am going to talk to them about formatting it and putting xp pro on it. I just don't want a problem with the built in stuff.

Vista will sometimes get a bsod when going into screensaver. Doesn’t seem to do much harm, just reboots. I’m not aware of any fix.

Problem is you need to be absolutely sure all the peripherals will work if you go backwards to XP. Video display, audio, modem, NIC, everything.

Problem with Vista (OK, one of....) is drivers for peripherals such as printers, DVD burners, all those kinds of things.....

I guess the only place to buy XP is EBay anymore...

I'm looking at a Dell business solutions catalog with XP on select notebooks and desktops until 4/11/07.
