After a long wait and much anticipation i signed up for the Junior Development Program run by The sothern districs car club thru cams.
So after they tought us a bunch of mundaine stuff that i already knew, it was time to jump into the cars, I bought my subaru along to drive.
And my instructor is a clubman champion and wrc driver.
So i jump in my subaru, nervous wreck since if i smash it up its my ass and i have to pay for it.
I get in, start driving all good thru the banked corner into the salom course.

Now instead of going hand over hand i "push pull" the steering wheel the car goes off the track into a grass area. nothing major waited for another car to pass and off we went.

Now for me this is good experience, and also to get into good steering habbits.

i.e. not letting go of the wheel, proper grip all that stuff.

So now i have my cams N2 License and im doing a motorkhana event in 3 weeks.

Everything is well and good. just need some RS Turbo wheels and a nice deep exhaust for that boxer burble and i will be set.

I am also in the throws of getting a job to support my modding addiction and to prep my car up for the kutipo forest rally (fingers crossed).

I havent been able to post in a while due to a bunch of boring issues that im not going to bother saying.

Just a little update from Donkey Kong.

    Vm Out!

P.S. I know my spelling sucks.

DK, the whole "push-pull" thing is what driving instructors teach to teenagers when they're first learning to drive. It's to stop retarded people from getting tangled up in themselves and losing grip of the wheel.

Most street driving instructors couldn't do a decent lap time around a circuit if their lives depended on it.

Generally, the way to go is two hands on the wheel in the 9 3 position, or alternatively, 10 2 position, whatever suits you best. It's anything goes in the corners, especially with cars which have a large degree of steering lock (unlike karts, sports-prototypes and open-wheelers).

Have fun on the rally and stay away from the trees, or you'll have Bob Brown after you.

that must include all the Qld FCA members as well because that was the first thing we got taught last weekend at the roadcraft skidpan

I do push-pull on the track and do reasonable times because I have the car under control all the time, however in a race situation I could see this method being slow in response to other competitors movements

Check out the Victory by Design DVD with Alain DeCadenet driving the 312 and see how he uses push-pull

    wrong.

left arm out straight with wrist resting on 12 o'clock position, seat leaning back so your view of the road is through the gap between the wheel grip and the dashboard, right arm out window like you're carrying the door so people can see your hairy knuckles. correct driving method is digital. always brake and accellerate full-on or full-off.

I don't think they want you crashing your Ferraris. Driving instruction can't replace experience and talent so they have to be conservative with their advice, and I doubt the emphasis of the instruction (correct me if I'm wrong) was on driving at the limit and winning races. As you say, reasonable lap times.

Which is what I've found, hence my advice "anything goes" to DK, i.e. do whatever is fastest for you.

Sounds like the Melbourne cabbies... Scary stuff. Especially when they can't speak English, their Cab license is a year out of date and they drive 20 over the limit.

sounds a bit strange if he's over 15 and still schooling if he was supposed to be accelerated 3 years.

i was accelerated straight from kindy to year 3 as mum and nanna taught me to read and do math when i was 2 or 3, and i remember still being bored. then we moved hosue and it 'wasnt socially acceptable' to have me around older kids so they stuck me back with the dumb kids again. school is a waste of time anyhoo. everything useful i was taught they could have finished teaching by the age of 10. they should teach practical real-world stuff so kids can function and look after themselves better. leave it up to them to choose any further studies.

how did Doogie Howser do it? :p

James, take this as advice, not criticism, careful with the black power statement, there are others from a land afar from this great nation that would love nothing better than to have a go at us.
