Volkswagen has given up the demand for controlling stake and therefore it looks like the deal will move forward. Lotus ends up duplicating resources and may be sold.

I hope Lotus can stay together and keep moving forward. The possible sale causes a bit of uncertainty. I hope a strong buyer comes along and lets Lotus continue what their doing on their own with some additional funding to get even better.

Being their current engine supplier, I wonder if Toyota would buy them? That would be a good sign for long term survival.

That is a good thought. This is very worrysome, Lotus on its stride right now so it would be a tragedy to see anything change drastically. Plus I have my eye on an Elise so they better not F that up!!

I don'r know about you guys but the elise seems to be a flop.

They just sit on the lot.

It was a hit car for a limited time

I think it's more of a case of Lotus trying to make too many (996-style) than them not being popular.

In a way I hope Toyota buys Lotus. It might help make Toyotas a little more fun to drive with better steering feel.

Amen about the steering feel of Toyotas -- some of 'em are damn near Buick-like. That said, I suspect Toyota would pass on the notion of buying Lotus. They're one of the few automakers today that hasn't bought anyone else.

With good reason. They're doing a great job creating entirely new brands out of thin air.

You are right, but I have no idea why. It might just not be the right car for this country where most would consider a Honda Accord v6 sportier because it has more hp. Also the Elise is very small and in a world of SUVs it can be pretty intimidating.

Many comments I've heard is that it is overpriced. To me it is the bargin of the century-- 7/8's of a Ferrari at 1/4 the price. So in that regard, cars sitting on lots is a GREAT thing, but only if they can stay in business and keep sending them here.

I think the real problem with the Elise is the price. 40k isn't exactly pocket change. Most people see the Elise as a weekend toy, and at that price there are a lot of other cars that offer more of an all around (more usable) package.
For me, I love the car, but at 40k it's just a tuff sell.
