I currently own an NSX and a toyota Paseo. I drive my Toyota everyday, but I'm considering a 94-98 Volvo with no particular model in mind so long as it is a sedan. I'm looking to make this car my daily driver to meet with clients and attend meetings with. Just wondering if anyone here has had experiences owning a volvo, and would care to share their thoughts with me in regards to the vehicles comfort, reliability, maintenence costs, performance, handling and what model would be recommended. Also, what kind of impression does a volvo have in regards to status. When in wealthier residences like Tustin, Newport or Laguna Beach, I see a good number of Volvos. I'm just looking to buy a vehicle at a reasonable price of 10k or less and still have a classy image when doing business. Thanks in advance

I bought a 96 Volvo 850 just a few years ago. Only had 13k miles when i bought it, now 74k. Runs great, have had only one issue not related to routine maint. From what i read newer models have not bode so well in the reliablity dept. Test drive one though as the ride and handling are not that great.

    My suggestions:
850R, 940 Turbo or 960, or S90. The 850R is a very nice car - the fastest and most exclusive of the 850s. It has leather seats with suede inserts, and a slightly different look from the regular 850 Turbos. I recommend the 940 Turbo, 960, and S90 because they are rear-wheel drive, which accounts for a smoother ride, and also they are very underpriced (IMO) for what they are, making them a great value.
I've owned, and regularly drive 240 DLs, and they are very easy to work on (another virtue of RWD - it cleans up the engine bay), and quite solid vehicles. The body will always rot away before the motor dies.

A neighbor owned both an 850R and the later S70. He hated the 850 because he said the tires had such a low aspect ratio, he had to replace them every time he hit a pot hole. He loved the S70 and regrets selling it. I've actually considered buying a late model S70 as my daily driver, then giving it to my kid in 5 years when he starts driving. He should be plenty safe in a Volvo.
