very solid car. The non-turbo version is a little underpowered. The S60R is pretty sexy in and out, and has lots of go. For "mom" the standard turbo version (non-R) would be fine. Drives and rides very nice, not going to light the world on fire in any one area, but a very solid performer in all areas. Wont exhibit a slight understeer until pushed hard. If that bugs you, or mom, a $200 sway bar form IPD USA will solve it and give you a slight oversteer.

Safe? fuggetaboutit. Volvo didnt get its reputation for no good reason.

Properly maintained they have few problems, and are known for running for hundreds of thousands of miles.

    hard to go wrong.

Check out Swedespeed.com, and IPD USA for aftermarket parts and for info on the ins and outs of Volvo's.

(one bad thing about modern volvo's.... the factory shop manual runs $5k. !!!!).

Family has (2) 2003's right now, and had a third until it was totaled. One has been horrible, in the shop more than Jaguars of friends. The totaled one was bad, but not as bad. The other one is alright as far as reliability, but they all ride worse than my fullsize 4x4 truck will big all terrains. The one thing I give them, is that they are safe. My sister was hit hard in her's when she totaled it, and she was fine. Good Luck

wow... cant say that I've ever driven/ridden in a Volvo, of any era, that fits that description. In fact, if anything, they are critised for being a little plush.

are ya sure yers have round tires and not the option square ones? :D
